Incredible listen breaking down the South.  In short nobody really got all that much better.

 

They delve into bryces play and go deep into his pff stats and overall ranking.  In short, not good.

They talk about his 5th year option and beyond.  Interesting listen.   The South should be wide open though

Like the show and will listen, but Steven Ruiz is awful to listen to. He's a Panthers fan which makes it worse. I don't expect Bryce to have glowing reviews, but to have him ranked 34th last season behind some miserable options, and his rankings in general...yeesh.

The division is most certainly wide open. The Bucs are a problem but Baker Mayfield is and will remain his own worst enemy it's a matter of when not if he has a bad game or even a stretch of bad games.

As far as the Panthers they have done an admirable job of trying to address needs as best they can without pulling a Scott Fitterer and getting desperate which has only made us worse off in the past.

On the Bryce subject all anyone can really say at this point is we just have to wait and see. This is the year and despite what the Panthers may say publicly doubling down and going all in on WR is as good as any sign anyone should need that they expect Bryce Young to have a very productive and convincing season. The pieces are in place. They aren't perfect but nothing ever will be. Regardless there's honestly no excuse for this staff and this team not to be able to compete in this iteration of the NFC South.

Also just want to say this because I can say the hyper defensive posts already being made in here and it's probably going to be a season with highs and lows again but hopefully more highs for sure. But just because there is dialogue about a position group or a player that challenges your preconceived notions or makes you uncomfortable does not make it "hate" or "anti" this player or that player. For some people who talk a lot about nuance you would think this wouldn't need to be stated but that's where we're at.

nah, these dudes examine it a bit different, again feel free to listen and dispute what they say. They have some good metrics and analysis both ways.

I don't really care what Youtubers think. Young will either resemble Weeks 1-2 more, or Weeks 14-18 more. We don't know yet. Probably a mix of both would be my guess.

They spent 10 plus mins ripping Bryce using some stat they had to explain because they made it up. I could have just had a conversation here. I did enjoy listening to them rip the Falcons

Sure Bryce will have good and bad games but why think he will come out looking like week 1 and 2 last year versus him picking up where he left off? You could see the progression when he was put back in. He was throwing on time anticipating where the receiver will be instead of holding the ball. Instead of backing up he climbed the pocket and began running and throwing for big gains. Those are now in his repertoire when he needs them. The game has slowed down. He is confident and having fun like he did in college. And he has the same coach with a better cast to expand on what he did last year. Frankly I expect him to be better than last year.

No one knows how Bryce is going to do. The time for squeezing metrics in order to meet preconceived notions or to support positive or negative narratives is dead. The field will be where Bryce's story unfolds. We've just got to wait and see what happens.

The problem with these summary stats and rankings is that they flatten out progression and assume an even performance throughout the year. His first 3 or 4 games of the season don't really tell you anything about his current level of capacity but more about where he started and what his floor was last year. Given his last several games were against playoff teams, that gives you an idea of his current ability coming into the season. But it will serve more as a floor than a ceiling given the upgrade in talent on offense. And a better defense should give us more stops which results in shorter fields and more opportunities. And going into his third year there is no reason to suspect he will regress. His success wasn't  based on being superhuman but being smart and taking what was the defense was giving him. Distributing to the other guys not trying to do it on his own. He was great at the end when pressured and consistently moved the ball. That makes him a great game manager which is what we need. Something that is easier to do and relies on everyone else rather than having to be a top physical specimen or do it on his own. No one can predict the future but to say we haven't improved much is crazy given just having the Browns anchoring the defensive line will shut down the run and make sure QBs won't be stepping up in the pocket.  Assuming Evero got the message to can the prevent defense and bend until you break philosophy.
