It's going to take time to really evaluate new ownership. I still have some hopes that they can get us past the curse of the Jordan years. We got screwed over by the league with the lottery yet again, nothing in this draft was ever going to make people happy after that happened.

Until LaMelo is traded, this is an unserious organization anyway. There's an insane lack of talent, and the talent all comes with baggage and injury concerns.

I assume the OP was about passing on Ace...but he's exactly the type of prospect doomed to bust here and compound on to the problems with all of his rumored sketchiness.

But tbh, even if we took Ace, he would force his way out or be injured all the time or immediately leave when his contract was up after half-assing here then go on to be an all-star elsewhere.

I see all these people now saying we need to trade LaMelo, but we’ve seen this movie before.  He can’t stay healthy - then we trade him and he lives up to all of his potential while we poo the bed with whatever assets we got back for him and end up with nothing.  It’s the Hornets and Panthers way.

I just thought we could have gotten more for Mark Williams.

He flunked a physical (allegedly), clearly didn't want to be here, and was in the last year of his contract. I'm actually surprised they were still able to get a couple of first rounders for him.

I was concerned it could become a thing if we drafted him.  If the grades are even remotely close you draft the player who wants to play for your franchise.  Maybe this will be nothing and all blow over, but it's nice not to have to worry about it...

$41 million and can't even show up like every other rookie is and has been doing? Terrible look.

For the record, the Draft is fun...but I wish they'd find a way to get rid of it.

It is borderline crazy that pro athletes are just about the only profession where you don't have really any say on where you're going to work, live, etc.

Free agency for all would come with issues, but I'd be interested in it. Want to go to the contender? Then prepare to take less money. Only care about your paycheck or getting your stats? Then welcome to the bad teams with cap space.

Conceptually it's worth pondering if there are alternatives that could line up with current times. Alternatively on the flip side it opens a very real conversation about newer generations who are making in many cases drastically more money than previous generations of basketball football and baseball players being entitled.

For me I'd say to even begin to entertain the notion of this then average pay should go down minimum 75% across the board. See how folks feel about the draft when they're only making WNBA money.

Ace Bailey by all accounts is also a great teammate and hard worker, btw, who was drafted by a team he supposedly didn’t want to go to yet he immediately bought in.

You mean the guy who hasn't shown up to Utah yet and whose camp has had "minimal contact" with the team since draft night? That's immediately buying in?

I can't see a world where the money goes down, but maybe your lottery odds are now your contract numbers you can offer.

Thunder? You can offer Flagg 4 years, 20 million.

Hornets? You can offer Flagg 4 years, 80 million.

Some form of a system where the money is still there, but so is the freedom of choice (on top of bad teams getting *some* competitive advantage to signing them).

It's an interesting topic of conversation as sports evolves.

I think ultimately it would lead to a number of small market franchises folding though. Especially in the NBA where there are so many bad teams that have been bad for years and years in some cases already.

But as it stands I think athlete pay draft or no draft aside has reached a point where we can and should realistically ask should they make that much compared to the average person. Now college athletes is a different conversation but even that reaches a breaking point.

But we could go down the rabbit hole on this even further into overall entertainment and talk about actors making absurd sums too.

In the end I think in sports the powers that be won't allow these changes to even be considered because it opens the door for so many other variables.

But who knows how long sports like football will realistically be around after people like us pass on. We're only just now learning about things like CTE which the league and the sport in general will only be able to run away from for so long.

As far as the NBA goes my understanding is viewership has been steadily going down for a number of reasons but one crucial aspect is key players missing so many games. The NBA has to figure that out regardless. Especially when considering fans who pay to see these athletes compete in person.

But hey I guess let's just try to appreciate what we've got while it still exists in this form eh?

Ppl want to trade Melo? Am I wrong for thinking that would be a bad idea?
