You can largely track the meaningless preseason warmups…..and our good seasons we largely had respectable warmups which lead to us winning at least half of them.

I think recency bias is affecting you on this....

We were usually 2-2 to 3-1 under Foxy and Ron in pretty much every pre season.. and it didnt correlate to how we did in the regular season pretty much at all, heck I remember the panic over the run defense in the 2013 pre season...  #1 run d in the regular.

Individual performances are all you can really evaluate in the pre season and even those can be skewed by missed assignments on the lines.

We have been pretty much unwatchable for 3 years.... I'm going to be thrilled this year if we have a watchable offense... anything else is icing on the cake.

To be abundantly clear this is the same place where many people ridiculed others last preseason saying it didn’t matter and then we got the doors blown off in the first two weeks of the regular season.

Lol This argument has been a lot longer than that.... its every year BTW not hard to predict it somehow matters when we suck, its been seven years of suckitude, low hanging fruit to try and act like it was a bold prediction and "I told you sooooo!"

Heck back during the 2013 pre season this place was up in arms about the last ranked "run defense" we had during the pre season....

Finished #1 in run defense

If you've gotta go back 12 years to find something to make your point with that says it all my guy......

Everyone here wants the same goal. Some of us differ on opinions about things that transpire in the meantime. That's fine. I mean it'd be great to wake up one morning and know this franchise is at least a contender. It'd also be nice to get the back to back winning seasons monkey off our backs. But we gotta stop looking like the fuging Little Giants out there first.

That's just from memory bub, and considering how awful we have been for 7 years that aren't memorable in any way...  its basically 5 years lol. In 2015 people were melting down about the offensive line swearing cam would be on IR by week 5.

And I completely agree, the saying is Rome wasn't built in a day and all.

Like I've said my expectations for this year aren't grandiose or crazy with homerism I want a watchable/entertaining offense....

If our defense could get up to about #22 overall I would be extatic.... I have zero expectations on that side of the ball.

Yawn and it still doesn't matter recency bias is just letting you get low hanging fruit with "i told you soooo"

Recency bias, huh? If 7-10 years is recency bias, then we have a different definition...

Secondly, I don't gloat when my negative predictions turn out right. It just goes against my constitution to celebrate negativity---it makes no sense.

Third, I don't generally make predictions anyway, I just discuss players and coaches based upon current happenings (or reality, if you will), wait for things to play themselves out, address the situation at hand, and have more discussions (wash, rinse and repeat). Sure, I will chop it up about hypotheticals and trade proposals, but this is a Panthers message board and engaging in discussion, including hypotheticals, is interesting to me. Otherwise what's the point? But making grand proclamations that this player sucks or this player is JAG is not my thing. Now if T-mac turns out great, or the unicorn that is his upside (in my opinion), or if Legette gets it together and is outstanding, or Renfrow makes the team and does his thing, then I'm not averse to an "I told you so."

Now there are times when I absolutely go out on a limb, and absolutely against the grain.  Years ago, when Mike Shula became the OC, within the first month of play, I posted to the effect that he was out of his depth. I said in so many words that he was given the keys to a Ferrari but running it like a Yugo. A little more recently, during the preseason that we acquired Philly Brown, I told people that Philly was JAG. I took heat in both circumstances (some still think Philly was special), but I feel that history proved I was absolutely right about both situations. Never once did I say, "I told you so," because honestly I took no glee in it, and when you're right in those situations, you really don't have to say anything anyway.

Lastly, I don't really get your core point, because all I'm saying (along with some others) is that we're tired of hearing the same old rationale---some might call "excuses," every single preseason (and regular season, to be quite frank). Until there is definitive change that we don't have to guess about whether it's real or imagined, and until we see some longstanding consistency, progress and improvement, all this other stuff is just noise.

Recency bias? "I told you so."

Not sure how one drive by our starters playing the 2nd and 3rd stringers of a team that won 3 games last year….indicates our starters are on track.  And their backups 3 and outed us on 50% of our drives.

fans are doing the same thing we do every year of the Tepper era.   Manifesting a good team when there is no evidence yet of such IMO

I said decent, not good.

Just to show you how little the preseason matters

In 2003, they went 1-3 in the preseason then made the playoffs and went to the Super Bowl.

In 2015, they were 3-1 in the preseason and also made the Super Bowl.

In 2018 and 2022, they also went 3-1 in the preseason but didn't make the playoffs.

Pre season aren't real games the teams aren't trying to win.... (dont believe me check out teams kneeling instead of attempting *game* tying chipshots so they avoid OT)  they are even less meaningful when you have had joint practices all week.

I want to agree as I've said this exact same thing in prior preseasons but while winning doesn't matter, the absence of signs of competence throughout the roster has indeed translated to the regular season for a number of years.
