  • Nic Scourton (Rookie EDGE): Scored the highest PFF grade among all Panthers players with a 91.8. He achieved 1.0 sacks and 2 QB pressures, earning a 90.6 pass rush grade.
  • Bryce Young (QB): Earned a strong 85.1 PFF grade in his limited action, completing 4-of-6 passes for 58 yards and a touchdown.
  • Ikem Ekwonu (LT): Posted an 85.8 grade, leading the Panthers' offensive line.
  • Tetairoa McMillan (WR): While his overall PFF grade was 52.7, he had an impressive debut with two receptions for 43 yards, including a highlight 30-yard catch. McMillan played 100% of the team's snaps with the starters.

having your QB, LT, and Edge as top 3 is massive for any team. those are cornerstone pieces you need to win in the playoffs. Yes it's preseason and I'm not taking too much out of it, but it's been a long offseason

PFF's lowest-graded #Panthers on defense for preseason game 1 v. the Browns: (min. 10 snaps)

🔴 LB Bam Martin-Scott - 29.6
🔴 LB Jon Rhattigan - 29.8
🔴 DL Tershawn Wharton - 32.8
🔴 OLB DJ Wonnum - 34.9
🟠 LB Krys Barnes - 41.6

we have to sign someone after final cuts are made

Certainly happy to see the top 4 of Scourton Bryce Icky and TMac.

Tershawn Wharton though. Definitely need to see better from our 45 million dollar free agent. This is where some of the concerns of overpaying role players enters the conversation. Hopefully he shakes it off.

It may end up being an overpay, but I get why they did it.

Our pass rush was so bad last year, and he was one of the top interior defenders with pass rush ability.

I've heard hes had a good camp, but not great last night

Claudin Cherelus does better than that...

I don't think T-Mac was top 4, he was just a "notable" grade at 52.7.

It's a super small sample size...Don't jinx us.

Panthers Rookie EDGE Nic Scourton in Preseason Week 1:

🔵 91.8 PFF Grade
🔵 1.0 Sacks | 2 QB Pressures
🔵 90.6 Pass Rush Grade
🔵 28% Win Rate

I did not like the edge options at the top of the first--as much as I liked Javon Walker the person, I just did not see the fit.  Others had red flags.  When we got Scourton, I was very happy, but I had not researched him.  I saw it.  Since I was not expecting him to be there, my second round hope was Princely.  Can you say, "happy camper?"

The #Panthers free agent signings and their PFF grades vs. the Browns:

🔵 Bobby Brown III - 91.4
🟡 Christian Rozeboom - 69.5
🟡 Tre'von Moehrig - 63.7
🟡 Sam Martin - 60.3
🟠 Rico Dowdle - 55.8
🟠 Pat Jones II - 54.8
🔴 Turk Wharton - 32.8

To be fair I don’t think Rico Dowdle got enough carries to warrant a score, Canales abandoned the run fairly earl.  Wharton’s performance is concerning let’s hope he can do better

    • I believe I just read somewhere that the Rams don't do Top 30 Visits. I mean, it makes sense from the standpoint of trying to keep information close to the vest.
    • I'm not sure 19 is too high for Rodriguez anymore.  He looks to be moving up boards, but it could be smokescreens.
    • I see XL this way---great athlete.  Good person.  When we drafted him, we knew he was raw.  One year of WR in college (starting) and in HS, he was a QB, I believe. We knew we would need patience with him.  I think year 3 will be make or break.  He is older, and I think that people with his athletic ability have always been better than those with less---but those with less can become more successful.  Why is that?  in my view, it is mental. XL can learn the mechanics and nuances of playing WR if he becomes focused on it and works at it.  I had the opportunity to talk to Armanti Edwards one day after OTAs (great guy) and he discussed how overwhelming it was.  He seemed shocked.  At that time, I knew that Fox hated the pick (I heard him mock Armanti to another coach when he saw Edwards drop a punt from a jugs machine--then I saw Armanti look back at Fox as if to suggest that he was feeling the pressure to please the coach. We forget that these are kids in their early 20s.  At the time, Fox was a lame duck.  Remember when he had Clausen as the #3 QB and was forced to move him up the ladder?  I liked Fox, but I think the climate and culture was influenced by the politics.  Currently, I see another Wr from SC who is struggling, but he is ina  very nurturing, positive culture. Let's see what happens with XL.  I am frustrated too---but XL was a second round talent who was raw and we traded up to get him.  He had 500 yards as a rookie--lets call 2025 a sophomore slump and see if we can't get at least 50 yards per game out of him.  If not, cut bait.
