After he put up 6 TDs on their 1st string in the joint practice.

This place is goofy sometimes...

TMac was not a bad pass--he will come down with that ball most of the time.  Sanders dropped a dime--and the INT?  I don't know what that was about.

The 2 announcers were rarely talking about what was happening when it was happening--so it was hard to follow the game.  Few replays--.  But they droned on about some topics while stuff was happening--I turned off the sound.  Smitty is a dick.  You don't try to one up your partner, you dont draw attention to yourself for being right, etc.  I bet he has a blow hole on the top of his head and will soon grow some chin nads.  Nuff said.

Brother.

Brother....

The New Orleans Saints knew Andy Dalton was washed and barely backup worthy two whole years ago. We got to see what Andy Dalton looked like with more than 1 start under his belt last year too. It resulted in some of the worst whoopings in years. Why some of you are still running from the truth like this is bordering on cult like.

I think you're missing the point I was getting at in response to the other guy...

He was implying we brought in Andy to not be a threat... which isn't true.

Andy was brought in to be a high-end backup. And he once was.

But as I've mentioned several times... I saw this same story play out with Derek Anderson...

He went from looking like a high-end backup to unplayable in one preseason.

Everything I've read about Dalton in camp has been positive, but hes looked old AF in the games.

Smitty was stupid after that INT, and really annoying overall. Bryce saw Sanders get pulled down & the flag was thrown right in front of him. He 100% knew it was a free play.

And you're right, the throw to T-Mac wasnt bad (but not perfect). The throw to Sanders was. If Sanders wants to be TE1 he's got to catch that.

And the sack was bc it was 3rd down and Bryce was buying time for someone to get open beyond the sticks.

Again, it was 4 effing dropbacks...

The man threw 6 TDs in a game-simulated practice on Thursday.

So many people want to hate on Bryce with zero logic behind it.

And it's more insane when there is a defensive side that does deserve plenty of criticism...

And it goes all the way to the top... keeping Evero will prove to be a mistake IMHO.

His scheme sucks no matter who's in it

Andy is quite a bit older than Derek was back then.

For context. Derek Anderson in his very last season when he was very obviously done done he was 35.

Andy Dalton is 37.

Go ahead and read that back a few more times.

This didn't just happen overnight. Andy Dalton didn't just wake up one morning this year and become a bad QB like he lost his talent like the basketball players in Space Jam.

The front office knew what they were doing. They knew the risk. They did it anyway for comfort instead of what is best for the team. That is old fashioned healthy competition. At the most consequential position on the field. They only have themselves to blame. They are by no means victims of circumstance.

Agree with everything you said, but he looked pretty bad for most of last season.  The Raider game is the outlier.  Bryce only got a 2nd chance to start last season because Andy fell off a cliff.

Man, hush. This team has been bad for 6, 7 years. Theres a reason the fans are the way they are.

If the place is so bad then leave. You’ve been whining about the huddle since then. You dudes who constantly rage about a community you dislike are goofy. Just leave

I'm going to preface this by saying I really hope I'm wrong. The best thing for this team is that Bryce balls out and we look like an actual professional team.

But I really thought the end of last season could have been the turning point for Bryce, but he looked lost today in a meaningless preseason game more than he ever did in those games. I think it's going to be another slow start and I pray they don't try to extend a qb with this track record.

In fairness to Bryce as bad as the first two possessions were I wish Bryce had been left in for at least another couple of series. Canales should have been aware after that look what the fan reaction should be. It really was pointless to even play him.

WTF are you talking about?

And talk about the pot calling the kettle black... why even respond if its going to be something this intellectually stunted...

And yes, I stand by overall the discourse here was better in the past.

Braindead responses like yours just confirm it.

Not one single coach is making decisions in the preseason to placate the fanbase.

I wanted another series too to be clear, but Canales was super clear in the presser that what he saw in the joint practice was much more important in the grand scheme of things.

31 other NFL coaches would say the same thing.

Blah blah, then go. Only braindead one is you who continues to engage in what you believe is “braindead”. That’s insanity

I generally agree with you that Bryce and the starters should have given it a go another series. But it probably would have resulted the same. And ultimately the fear is the way Bryce looked in that final drive lacked confidence and looked shaky at best. Preseason or not for a third year QB I think Canales just wanted to get him off the field. The look on Bryce's face after on the sideline said everything. It's tough being a Panthers fan.

I think Bryce needs to play again next week anyway. He looks great in training camp where people are barred from hitting him.

He looks meh in preseason games where second stringers are allowed to take shots at him.

I'm feeling pretty antsy about his capabilities. We can't wait each year for him to kick in during week 8.

Especially not with another "defense" by Ejero. Only DC in the league that doesn't believe in tackling practice. Just hands the players a pamphlet and hopes that they read it.

The continuing issue that people want to ignore is that Bryce can't operate well in muddy pockets which are consistent in the nfl. Its not a coincidence he had the best game of his career against the falcons because they couldn't get anywhere near him. Its just to bad your not gonna get that every single game. You can stack the o line and pay them the highest salary all you want to keep bryce comfortable. Its still gonna get muddy in games.

I agree overall with what you said.

But the idea the front office just went with Dalton when there were obvious better backup QBs isn't backed by fact as I see it.

Who do you think they should have brought in? Andy has a much better resume than most backup QBs.

I think Panthers fans are (rightfully) concerned by what weve seen in preaseson.

But still, look at this list... I bet half the teams in the league would consider Dalton, even as is, as a potential upgrade.

https://www.si.com/nfl/2025-ranking-nfl-backup-quarterbacks

I mean take a look at this list... Arguments could be made for some of these guys, but when you look at it, you realize Andy ain't that bad.

Still, though, I do think this needs to be Andy's last year and we need to look younger.

Immediately I would like to see us try to upgrade at QB3.
