Panthers Fandom Therapy

I get that we have PTSD from 2023 and first two weeks of 2024, and sucking since 2019 doesn't help.  But are we really going to go into full meltdown every time Bryce or the offense have a poor showing?  I think we need some serious therapy if we're going to get through this season, but then again winning cures everything.  Yet even winning teams have dreadful games, so this message board is going to be one giant rollercoaster ride.

Maybe we just need to get over the fact that Caleb Williams will probably play like an MPV under Ben Johnson and just take these 4 steps to recovery.

1. Impact Stage (or Initial Response) This is the immediate aftermath of a traumatic event, characterized by shock, fear, helplessness, and anxiety.

This was us in 2023 after realizing that the entire team sucks and Bryce is not the superhuman point guard that can overcome an atrocious offensive line, having Chark and Mingo as your primary receivers and an aging Thielen as your only redeeming option.

2. Denial Stage (or Numbing): During this phase, individuals may downplay the impact of the trauma, try to avoid difficult emotions, or even deny that the event occurred. This is a coping mechanism to protect oneself from further mental anguish.

Too many of us had a hard time accepting that we may have given up too much to draft Bryce.  We made excuses for him, for the coaching staff, for the terrible roster decisions. We talk him up to be something he's not which will only delay the healing process when he struggles in some games.  He's not  a once in a generation type of QB who will take you to the promise-land without much supporting cast.

3. Intrusive/Repetitive Stage: As the denial phase subsides, individuals may experience intrusive thoughts, flashbacks, nightmares, and increased anxiety. This can be a very distressing stage, but it also signifies a willingness to confront the trauma.

THIS IS WHERE WE ARE NOW:  Every time Bryce or the offense have a poor showing, we experience flashbacks and increased anxiety producing reactionary tweets and full blown meltdowns.

4. Rescue/Processing Stage: In this stage, individuals start to come to terms with the traumatic event, potentially revisiting the location or ruminating on what happened. Feelings of confusion, despair, and anger may be present, and it's a time for beginning to process the trauma.

But there's hope, because as we start winning again then the intrusive thoughts and flashbacks start to fade and may not completely disappear but they become more and more manageable. I believe Bryce can be a top 10 QB but as long as you accept the fact he'll need a complete and balanced team to win a Superbowl then we'll be OK.

If anyone needs to be told, this isn't a Bryce bashing post, in fact it is the opposite of that.  I believe in Bryce as a franchise QB, I have just come to realize that chasing the perfect QB is a recipe for decades of misery.  I believe Bryce will have a really good year, but he will still have games that may cause us to have "flashbacks".   Let's try to enjoy the ride, shall we?  Cheers

There is little to do but make fun of this team for me. Fan how you want because I sure am.

It's hard to take anyone seriously that takes this team too seriously. Nothing about this team is respectable so not respecting their endless on field ass is Panther level hilarious. How about stop getting g mad at fans and direct it to the people running the pooshow?

What's happened to this fanbase goes way beyond Bryce. We've experienced 2 versions of Hurndog, Nippleshorts, Fitterfuks, and now the only guy who'd take the job Morgan. Spygate and Mannings Last Ride screwed us out of 2 SB titles. This fanbase has been let down for decades. I for one am tired of hoping for something better. When the Panthers actually do something worth caring about, maybe the fanbase returns. Until then, we're the Browns of the NFCS.

The best is when we make JAGs into All Pros, and then are consumed with disappointment and anger when they inevitably flop and can't possibly live up to the expectations.

Yup. Don't forget thr 2 games where they looked better...while the opponents played down to a bottom dweller that day.

Maybe people’s way of showing they still care on this board is to sometimes post their disappointment in the team. Remember, there isn’t just one way to be a fan.

I agree and never question those people being true fans, just sayin' we should learn to cope and try to remain civil lol

    • Give me Anthony Hill Jr or give me death
    • We need a Sam Off Ball Backer to pair with Lloyd. Lloyd is a strong Interior Will especially in Pass Coverage- but that is also Trevin Wallace’s archetype. Need a Rozeboom style run stopper. Rodriguez and Allen fit that
    • There aren’t that many ways to screw Day 2 up.  That’d be them making an obvious reach, or selecting at one of the few positions that we are pretty solid at. Because as excited as we are for the growth and improvement this team is showing, it’s still not an overly talented or deep roster. Honestly, there aren’t really many positions I’d feel bad about. Feelings about Bryce aside (because we are not going to select a QB), it’s really RB (bad positional value) and that’s it. I guess OT too since we grabbed Freeling in Round 1.    While not as high on my wish list as other spots, you can justify WR or TE.     Interior offensive lineman who would likely take over an interior spot either this year (at center) or guard (next for cap casualty of Hunt or Lewis)? Fine by me.   Dlineman? Yes, that’s a highly rotational position and we have zero quality depth.    ILB? Yep, could stand for an upgrade over Wallace.    EDGE? Absolutely wouldn’t hate another option to spell Phillips, Scourton, and Princely.    FS?  Would love to add better coverage skill set to the backend of the defense. Moehrig and Ransom are great in run support but not as good deep. Adding a more traditional FS would allow us to mix and match/run some 3 safety sub packages and or a big nickel type look with a SS down near the line for better run support in possible pass downs.    CB? Could stand to get better at nickel.
