Coker being out is a HUGE loss. Once he’s back our WR group will look much better. He was easily our best receiver last year and it wasn’t close. Tet looks the part and frankly with an actual QB all our WRs would look better than they do with Bryce, even XL

We will see. I disagree on XL. More likely he would actually look worse because others would elevate their play and its unlikely he is capable of doing that.

No idea I’m not a Vikings fan. Does anyone on here honestly think he wouldn’t have at least 12-15 catches for us through 3 games?

Just looked.
3 games

6 targets

2 receptions

26 yds

No TDs

I felt like that deal was wife driven - kids probably didn’t like Charlotte, probably missed their friends wife misses her family etc  And he has to hear about it  Keeping peace in the home front

Just speculations but that’s the vibe I got from it

Oh 100%. I get it I’d do the same if I was him but as a fan would prefer Dan cared more about what’s best for the team vs keeping some vets wife happy

Maybe but I don't think he'd much of an upgrade, frankly. He's clearly lost a significant step. Again, I was not advocating for the trade, I'd rather have just kept him. But I hardly think he'd be changing the equation much here. Coker's injury sucked but if we kept AT and that led to less opportunity for Coker throughout the season that would be worse than where we're at now. Need to see what we have in the young guys, XL included. I think XL is a massive bust but better to give him reps the rest of the year and be sure than give up this soon. Tet and Coker should be the top 2 WRs in targets though once Coker is back. Tet obviously is the top dog and deserves to be, he's a bonafide stud that much is already clear.

Best for the team this season or best for the team in general? Sure AT might be better for us winning games this season (maybe he helps us get 1 extra win over the course of a season...), but is that really what's best for the team? The picks are whatever but evaluating and developing young players would be my number 1 priority this year, young WR included. And Thielen getting targets over the young guys could jeopardize that. I'd have been fine keeping him too, I don't think it's a huge deal either way.

I think there is an argument to be made that this might have been best for the team.
These young guys have to step up. No Bryce safety blanket makes him have to learn to trust some other guys.
Time will tell.
An ancillary benefit might be that Morgan is viewed by potential FAs as a solid straight up guy to deal with.

That trade up isn't looking so genius now. Im not sure he will turn it around here after the PR blitz they put out on him. Just trade him and learn freaking something from it finally. Players are not fixing the seat situation at the stadium. A good product on Sundays will. Boring ass football won't.

I don't think he lost any steps from last year even a little bit. The steps you are talking about he lost several years ago.

She could have moved without him and kept the money.  She seems like a handful

That’s part of the reason I hated it. Beyond first-world problems. Why did we have to placate her when they could literally move back there in a few months lol

I don’t know. The giving up 2 million dollars is a bit extreme. Who doesn’t need two million dollars?

I don't understand why this whole thing is so tough to understand, it's very simple.

Neither Thielen nor his wife wanted out of Carolina, it's why he signed the new deal to come back here this year.

The Vikings had WR injury issues in camp, when that happened they then needed a WR and reached out to us to try and get Thielen.  Once that happened, it changed everything, because it was an opportunity for a player who lived his whole life in that state, to go home for his final NFL season.

Once that was on the table, yea, of course he's going to then "request a trade", but what people don't seem to grasp, is that Thielen didn't just come out and ask Morgan to trade him.  It ONLY happened because the Vikings became WR desperate in the weeks leading into the season, but I'm a million percent convinced if they didn't, we'd never have considered trading him and he wouldn't have asked for one.

It was a very unique situation that arose because of another team's needs, not Thielen's doing, and it was ONLY happening with that one team, no others would have made us want to trade him, especially for a bag of peanuts.

Now, had we still looked this bad to start the year, I think he'd have been traded to a contender at the deadline to just get something for him, but that then would have been a different and smart move at that time.

    • this will always be his issue. Because of either bad footwork or lack of arm strength he lofts those deeper balls. thats why he doesnt really attack the middle of the field. you cant float those passes there or its a pick. a lot of time those deep passes, wr had to slow down to catch it. you cant have an offense where you dont attack the middle of the field.
    • Well that’s the thing. Inconsistent. He will be horrible and then an hour later play much better.  In his third season, he finally played well for 4 qtrs a couple of times. You could look at a drive from those games and be a believer.  But keep watching…. you are like, that was a mirage.
    • That line about ‘above expectation’… the whole thing is so subjective. And unquantifiable due to the nature of it. Endless variables when the grader needs to make almost a split second determination of what the expectation should even be.  They try, I know. I can even give them the benefit of assuming good faith.  But that is so subjective and the name they gave it is pure hype. What about it is big time? Granted some throws are great but a plus one throw n September doesn’t seem to automatically deserve the label big time.     Would look to rename it with less hyperbolic label. That is my biggest objection really.    Big time were the throws on 4th down in the last qtr vs the Rams. Those, all day long. Excellent and for sure under big time pressure. Some other throws too. But that kind of throw seems to be a smaller fraction of what they use to calculate their grade.
