I would've absolutely taken a chance on Fields and I would've been wrong but I was always a loud Mac Jones dissenter. He just obviously didn't have NFL tools IMO. He was Kenny Pickett before Kenny Pickett.

I feel about the same.  I'm not in love with either prospect, but I think fighting against the current has done way more damage than drafting a bad player.  We resisted drafting a QB when we should have done it, and then forced it when we shouldn't have.

whats your solution for qb in 2026?  Seriously asking because the free agent list is LOL funny.

No idea. I guess you go with what you have until you've created the right environment for a rookie. Does no good to ruin another 1st round QB. But can't give Bryce an extension. He hasn't earned that in any way, shape or form. Let him fight it out in camp with Hooker and Dalton. We're in QB hell right now, but you can't keep blowing your rent money on the lottery.

He will probably request a trade or cut if we dont pick up his 5th but so be it

I hear you, but...

Ickey is nothing like Gross. Chuba is nothing like Stewart and Williams. I like Tremble, but he ain't close to Greg or Shockey for that matter. All pro Center that could call the protection. Smitty... TMac has shown potential but he isn't the playmaker Smitty was. Not yet anyway. A very good defense that needed the ILB to bring it together after Beason blew his achilles in the first game. Insert Luke in 2012. This team doesn't have a WR that threatens deep. Still need that guy. Too many holes to drop another rookie QB in. Not just offensively, but defensively too. Hard to ask a rookier QB to get into shootouts every game with this receiving corp.

By far the biggest difference is that we had a ROY future MVP at QB vs. Bryce Young. We aren't nearly as depleted of talent on offense as people want to make it out. It just looks that way when you're this handcuffed by the QB position.

Agree here, even though Fields didnt pan out, he should have absolutely been the pick.

Only way I'd pick up that 5th after this season is if he finished with 4000+ yards and 25+ TDs. Really don't think that's happening and would take a HUGE turnaround.

I can't say that he absolutely should've been. I mean, maybe through the interview process and whiteboard work the issues that would show up in the NFL were evident. Especially when it comes to evaluating the QB position so much of the evaluation comes down to that part that we don't have any insight into beyond the rumor mill.

Don't have deep threat at receiver. There really is no speed at the position. The position that should be heavy with speed is anything but. Cam had Smitty, LaFell, Legedu and 2 all pro TEs for underneath stuff. This receiving group is made up of glorified TE type WRs, and a rookie WR with a ton of potential that still has lapses in focus right now.

I don't know why folks are trying to act like T-Mac is a plodder like Funchess. He's not Randy Moss but the guy can run. XL was drafted in large part because he's 6'2" 220 with legit sub-4.4 speed. We don't have a QB who can throw a deep ball. We could have a fleet of absolute burners and we still wouldn't have a vertical element to our offense. We honestly just don't know what type of vertical ability we might have at receiver because we don't have the QB to unleash it.

XL is a plodder. He doesn't have quickness to go with the straight line speed. A CB could run a 4.6 and easily cover him deep just by getting a hand/body on him. He doesn't play big either. TMac is not a burner, neither was Funchess. But if you throw a Ginn on the field with Funchess, then you might have something.

Bryce can throw a deep ball. He just doesn't. Which is probably worse.

C'mon... everything has to go perfect after the snap for Bryce to deliver a deep ball. Anything less than the perfect setup and he can't throw a catchable ball deep.

And even then his downfield accuracy has always been poor.  Most of those Jameson Williams highlights at Alabama he was open by a mile.

No argument there. If it isn't his presnap read, then he ain't likely even trying it. But when decides to throw deep based on coverage, he's shown he can throw with accuracy.

Yeah, he's just not a good downfield passer. Plenty of us pointed this out in his college play. He was throwing up "area balls" to wide open receivers who could adjust to the ball. Put an NFL secondary out there and most of those balls aren't completed.
