Nic Scourton- PFF Highest Rated Rookie (Week 5)

I wonder how much of it had to do with the hiring of Eric Eager as VP of Analytics. He came in May 2024 after Free Agency and the Draft but was a part of the last draft and Free Agency.

For those that don’t remember, Eager was a Senior Data Analyst and VP of Research and Development at PFF. After that he was a VP with SumerSports where he had a big hand in creating NFL AI focused around roster optimization.

I do remember that now that you mentioned it I saw an interview with him at the time and I think it’s mentioned here on the board somewhere. I was impressed.
[He was considered a leading guy in that company, a scouting think tank/consultant type of thing. I remember the ex GM of the Falcons  I think was involved. And Tampa Bay. Dimitrof?]

......did it really take less than a page to turn a thread about Nic Scourton into whining about Bryce Young?

And now it is about the analytics guy. So are you making back into a Bryce thread?

So 4 tackles and 1 for a loss makes him the highest rated rookie defender for the week?

Is that because PFF drafted him or did someone miss a key stroke while giving autofilatio?

Grades arent fantasy points.

I didnt see it as whining about Bryce as much as asking is this year an anomaly in the 5 years Dan has been a part of the drafting process is it an outlier. There seems to be a lot of questions about whether or not repeating this type of draft is possible, and was it Dan, or bringing in a PFF guy that was ultimately responsible for the draft results.

If you watch any of the draft stuff it very much looks like they are working in tandem. I like the fit ( no pun intended ) Morgan making sure these guys are actual football players and dawgs and the PFF guys making sure we are getting productive guys by their metrics. IMO seems like they found a good balance. I don't think the analytical side was so robust before this past draft. If that is the case I don't see why we couldn't have at least similar drafts going forward.

    • I think Indiana will win it all but Miami should give them a much better fight than Oregon did.
    • When I tell people I was at that game, they usually say oh that’s so cool you had the experience. I call it soul crushing. Why? The weeks and months leading up to it were great, the team was fun to watch every week…some weeks the offense was unstoppable and carried the team (saints and giants road games), other times the defense carried the load (jaguars, tampa). Lots of back and forth games against good teams (Seattle and Indy). Good young players on the team, but the veteran leadership was incredible…from Cam, Olsen, Kalil and J Stew to Luke, TD, Norman, Tillman, Jared Allen, CJ. Role players like Fozzy Whitaker, Cotchery (he caught that MFer), Philly brown, Kyle love, AJ Klein, and so on.  The Friday before the nfc championship my wife and I after a few drinks said let’s see what prices look like for flights/accommodations and we got to talking about how much prices would increase if we waited until we found out if we would be in the big game. We said screw it, we are only out $200 if we have to cancel.  Of course we come out and just pulverized the cardinals in front of the most raucous crowd by far we’ve ever had. We had no idea what we would do for game tickets and then found out a neighbor who worked for the team could get us 2 for face value (each employee got two of their own for free, something cool that JR did).  But then the NFL mafia decided that the storyline of manning going out on top like Elway would give them more goodwill than a non traditional QB who didn’t connect with their target demo and the rest is history. I never have and never will watch that game again. I am just hoping I can see them win one in the 2nd half of my life.
