I have nothing against WItherspoon, I just know when we put Shaq in TD's spot he played great.  More opportunity more tackles.

I honestly think Spoon, Anderson, and Shaq were all basically interchangeable. I think Spoon was the best of the bunch but you're not gonna see a big drop off replacing any with any of the rest.

I always felt he was over-rated here.  To me, it is not about how many tackles you make, it is more about where you make them--Morgan and Beason and Luke were in the hole tacklers and they stopped right there.  It seemed to me that Shaq made a lot of tackles from the side--a few yards past the LOS.

I wouldn't go that far. He's basically a James Anderson/Will Witherspoon level player. Check the box starter. Not a problem area but not a guy you make a cornerstone of your defense either.

His absence here over the last couple of seasons speaks volumes otherwise.

It doesn't change who he is. We just replaced a serviceable starter with complete trash. Spoon and Anderson were 3rd round picks and basically what we were hoping to get with Trevin Wallace it's just not working out so far.

Nice house. No offense to Shaq, but this kind of over-the-top spending is why athletes go bankrupt after retiring. No one needs a house this big and expensive. Live below your means, especially in an industry with very short careers.

Internet says Shaq made 72mil in his career.

And I wonder if he paid 10 for it. Maybe it has appreciated.
Screw those property taxes on 10 mil.
 I can’t make them on a $750 k property without straining hard

He really felt like a connection to the past more than others.

Shaq reminds me of that older guy in the movie Life that was there with Claude and Ray. Shaq was around with legends like Luke and TD; played alongside them. Probably was telling the younger guys on the def what it was like.

I didn't follow the first two close enough after they left.  I know Shaq was solid, we were just spoiled with Luke, TD and before that was Beason before that Morgan....  and of course Mills.

Yeah they were pretty good LBs. Not great and if they're your best defenders you're in trouble but if they're your B or C level starters you're in good shape.

Morgan, Fields and Witherspoon were pretty good, I think they were together for 02 and 04

the rams overpaid Witherspoon and tried him at MLB which wasn’t his best place to be. We should have paid a premium to keep him and let Morgan walk. We did the same thing with Beason when it was clear he didn't have much left in the tank too. Those sentimental Hurney contracts always paid players for past performances
