Fox in the market for a complementary back

Mr. Scot

From the Denver Post, quoted in Rotoworld:

"You need more than one guy to make a full commitment to running the ball," Fox said. "We'll be in the process of finding more than one guy."

That'll fuel a boatload of speculation about DeAngelo Williams, though I'm not sure how justified it will be.

On a related note, to probably no one's surprise, Fox has named Kyle Orton the Broncos starting QB for next season.

"I think, way back even in '03 (with the Carolina Panthers), we made a commitment to running the ball. I think you need more than one back if you're going to consistently run it through the season," Fox explained. "And just from the standpoint that guy is going to take a lot of shots."

Definitely sounds like he wants a "Double Trouble" type setup in Denver (and there's some logic to that).

    • Apparently CSW lost his starting job to Thornton last year. If he can stay healthy I bet Thornton keeps that NB position.
    • I member him staying after practices with only to see he was wearing heavy weight vest, one of his trademarks. He also put in 10 years, right? People forget he was the ST stud that called the snap and made sure everyone lined up right. He was one of the "glue" guys that bought his "lunch pail" to work.... He was a willing solider, all teams need a couple of them. He blocked for sooo many panthers RBs- Davis, lane, Williams, foster, goings and when there was huge injuries he took over the starter duties and had a couple 100 yard games. If you followed hoover, he took the perfect RB path cause he was just a slow heavy one himself....
    • Walker likely depends on a couple of things. What exactly did Dan promise him, to start with.  How much other interest he actually had for a starter job at high pay is another question. It isn’t outside the realm of possibility that he could stay on as a swing tackle waiting to take Moton’s spot when it opens.    I can’t get myself to consider Icky as a viable anything until we see him back on the field.     Hunt seems to be a team player and good guy but I don’t think he is worth what he is being paid. I have him tentatively earmarked for cap causality in the near future.
