What y’all think about this? Bryce Young plays out and competes with a real journeyman with upside.  Maybe somebody like a Mac Jones…

Bryce plays well you get the 5th year, he doesn’t you at least have a serviceable player.

either way, 2027 draft the new QB for the future.

Mac Jones is under contract.

These are the QB's that will be free agents(not including any potential cuts).

They shouldn't pick up his option, but it would be prudent to expect them to do exactly that.

Dalton needs to be released.

Beyond that, there are some names on that list that may not be a bad short-term investment. I don't know that any should be viewed as a long-term solution. It would be surprising if Jones isn't held on to by Indy.

Take a vet and draft one too (early or later). Young hasn't shown anything worth his 5th year option but this team loves bad decisions.

Agreed. Throw two darts at the board.

I think Bryce's option being picked up is a foregone conclusion. I also would not pick it up were I making the decision.

Dalton can be cut with fairly minimal dead cap($3.5-6 mil).

Any available name(basically all veterans with options will steer clear of us) should be a one year, prove it deal.

It's unlikely there is a long term Panthers solution on that list. Perhaps a halfway decent bridge QB or two.

Bryce's option is 100% being picked up. I'd be floored if it wasn't. He's going to make more sense than 95% of the free agents, but it's just the option. Doesn't prevent us from going after somebody, drafting somebody, etc.

Best case you draft a guy who shows promise, Bryce is on his option and plays well, and then we're in a Vikings style scenario with Darnold/McCarthy. Hopefully the early returns for us end up being better than the Vikings.

picking up the option commits us to bryce for 2 more years at roughly 12 and 37ish million per.   So so much for the rookie contract being in our favor
