Top RB performances in Panthers history

DeAngelo Williams: 1515 yards (2008)

Steven Davis: 1444 yards (2003)

Christian McCaffrey: 1387 yards (2019)

Chuba Hubbard: 1195 yards (2024)

Jonathan Stewart: 1133 yards (2009)

 

DeAngelo Williams 1515 yards in 2008 are most in Panthers history for a season this was when Double Trouble was at it's height.

That year he averaged 94 yards a game.

Steven Davis missed 2 games 2003 so he comes in at the most yards per game in a season at 103 yards.

Mccaffrey averaged 86 yards a game in his 2019 campaign he also recorded 1005 yards receiving making his season statistically the best in Panthers history for a RB, had the Panthers had a better record he could have been a favorite for MVP.

Dowdle currently is averaging 81 yards a game despite only starting 3 games thus far.

In the games he has started 206, 183, 130 he's averaging 173 yards.

In Green Bay he rushed for 130 despite having a 21 yard run wiped out due to illegal procedure penalty that could of saw a 150 yard day.

Dowdle 5:6 (2025)

Williams: 5.5 (2008)

Stewart: 5.1 (2009)

Mccaffrey: 4.8 (2019)

Hubbard: 4.7 (2024)

If Dowdle continues even close to the pace he's on he's poised to break DeAngelo Williams single season Panther rushing record.

And what's interesting is Dowdle and this rushing attack is doing it without much of a passing game to assist.  Delhomme wasn't a great QB by any means, but he did put up 3k passing yard seasons.  You know you have a great O-line and runner when that is your only option, and still put up historic numbers.

I agree with your overall point but given our QB situation for the last near decade... and I suppose it depends what you mean by great, but Delhomme was a pretty damn good QB for a few years, and in a time when passing was much more difficult. Part of that was the crazy Smitty chemistry, but he also just had that knack for finding something out of seemingly nothing.

Anyway I do agree with how impressive what Dowdle is doing is!

Jake wasn't even the "hold my beer I got this" guy. He always struck me as the guy that drained his whiskey glass and said "Hey yall, watch this."

The sad part is Williams led the league in rushing tds as well with like 18 and didn't even make the pro bowl that season. 

Too bad it all ended in Jake's epic collapse

Hurney and Fox should have been looking for Jake's replacement after the 2007 season.

2008 we possibly win the Superbowl had we had better play at Qb.

I was too young to stay up late enough to watch the whole game so my mom recorded it on vhs which I watched over and over. Iconic game including the fan who got KO’d by Ahmad Green.

Favre got picked off by Carolina and a fan ran on the field mid play and ran directly between the panther db (Eric Davis I think) and Ahman green who was trying to make the tackle. Green plowed right into the fan.

I am sorry but I think Hunt is overrated. Seen him get pushed around. No one that makes that kind of money should be getting pushed around. 
Not saying he is not good, saying he isn’t playing up to his contract. Or wasn’t when healthy. I guess we paid the suck tax to him.

I don’t want him gone or anything and it would for sure be better if he were healthy and contributing, just saying.

That’s funny. Especially that guys face as they are ‘escorting’ him off the field. 
I didn’t think Miller was really that horrible on MNF but have seen some YouTube clips recently and he was a product of his time for sure. Too acerbic for me, in places.
