Does Bryce deserve credit for game-winning drives?

I mean, if Bryce Young never came out after halftime, everyone would basically be ready to bench him for good.  That wasn't a "confident" guy.  First half was basically the textbook Bryce game.  Scripted opening drive was good and a bunch of nothing. 

Bryce didn't throw any more deep balls than the week before vs the Saints.  What changed this game is our WRs just got open and did a lot with the ball in their hands vs a bad team in the 2nd half. 

I mean, props to Bryce on wanting to stay in and rebounding some in this game.  But largely the narrative is a random half of football is argued we should think something different now about him.  Which makes no sense 2.5+ years into what is a very consistent QB in terms of what he is and isn't overall.

Passing chart had 3 over 20 I think. The Legette TD and another completion and an incompletion. All over 20 yards.  An incompletion at 19 or maybe 20 yards. So you could technically probably say 4 throws 20 or more.  
 

That seems high to me compared to the norm. 45 throws and 10 YPA are both way high.

He averaged 2.2 going into Atlanta.  3 shot attempts is the most consistent number that pops on his pass charts.  5 games w/ 3 attempts.  His high was Miami with 4.

I used to think that stat meant something special. Turns out, a fraction of the time… a GWD is really some special thing  

It is about like when people say a fraction of this or that, but they actually mean a small fraction. 1/1 is technically a fraction. Handing off one time at 14.58 in the 4th quarter, then calling the kicker in… is technically a GWD. Woot. Call the HOF committee.

And like I already showed, only two games of of 10 here fall into that. The numbers are likely similar to other QBs.

I am not making it Bryce specific. Haven’t been for a while now, once I understood the nuance of it.
In fact the only time I have mentioned it in relation to Bryce this time around that I recall, is to show that another QB could get the same credit for that handoff scenario as Bryce did for his actual last possession on Sunday. Which is unfair. 

My point is it is a shitty indicator in general.

In a majority of the games if you take out the scripted drive - which the first few weeks didn’t amount to much at all half the time, there wasn’t a lot of meat on the bone. 
Even Sunday he had 130 and a TD in the first half, in his probably best game ever. 
His bad games were bad. 
This week will really be interesting. If he plays.

Well in the past they didn’t open the playbook. I’ve been saying they should stop being conservative and let Bryce sling it. No coincidence his yardage went up.

      The "now it's been three years" Grade for the 2023 Draft

      Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
