Jaycee as of late commits stupid penalties at the worst times possible.

Icky or some other OL false starts at horrible times.

I’ve watched players run to the wrong side of blocks and lose yardage when they could have run farther.

Yes.  They are not very smart.

Not all mental mistakes are penalties.  Things like giving a 15-yard cushion when the first down marker is at 10.  Not dragging your feet near the sidelines.  Giving up contain to chase the dive on play action.  Running bad routes.   Not reading quick enough.  Taking bad angles.  etc.  I see your point, but hesitation is not a penalty, nor is confusion.

I agree that talent is our main issue.  We are not getting our money's worth out of our OL, imo.  We need a #2 and don't really scare people at TE.  Our LBs are weak and we have an issue at S.  We get little pressure on the QB.

I think that this team has been coached up about all it can be for the talent level it has. We have a handful of really good players, maybe a couple that are bonafide star potential, and a lot of folks we took because either we drafted them or they were willing to come here. 

I think if we want to see Canales really turn this thing around, we have to look at this season (no matter what happens) as a proof of concept work. And part of that concept might very well be that Bryce is going to make one heck of a back-up QB, that we need real work on the LB corps and that our DB situation is much better than anyone thought. 

But yeah, this team shows more capability than they have in many recent years, but the talent just isn't there to excel.

Hence why they seem so unprepared at various times during the season, hence why we see them spontaneously go away from plays that are functional and never return, despite repeated failures.

Bryce and Dave deserve co-credit for how shitty we sometimes look. In fact, Dave moreso because his personnel decisions(including Bryce, XL, etc) are fuging terrible at times.

Nah.  Bryce is catastrophically bad.  No one can be assessed until he's gone.
