Bro you don’t pick up the fifth year option and hedge. Thats not how this works.

Theres no warm and fuzzy middle ground here.

the rookie contract works awesome if the player hits, however in bryces case its a detriment to the team, most orgs either sign them long term after year 3 while picking up the 5th or they move on.   As we have discussed all season less than a handful of qbs have entered this territory.  And most times it ends in diaster

The 5th year option price tag is 26.5 million I think.

He is eligible for an extension, forgoing the set price of the option year. That would be for whatever negotiated value they come up with.

The Jags signed Lawrence to an extension and skipped the option year. 5 year, 275 million, 200 million gauranteed. $55 million annually. This would most likely be the starting negotiation figure, since they are both former #1 overalls.

The Jets declined Zach Wilson's option year and he was dealt to another team in a pick swap deal.

I’m good with this. We need to take a development guy who can sit a year in the draft and picking up the 5th means we don’t do something dumb like sign him long term for 50M this year.

We need a new #1, #2 and #3 in Carolina.

all picking up Bryce’s 5th does is delays us from addressing the QB room.  Which is the most important room to address

thats the point, in 90% of the cases a decision is made one way or another.  Running this back for 2 more years hoping he can get to top 15ish by the end of year 4 is crazy.  Because again after year 4 you have to make another decision while on the hook for 27 million.  It doesnt make a lick of sense

Pick it up and his trade value goes up, especially if he makes a run into the playoffs.

There's enough mystery there as to has the coaching been holding him back or has it been his physical portion.

There's going to be a coach or GM out there that's going to look at Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, look at the Panthers organization, and think Bryce might be worth a flyer if there's a two year inexpensive tryout period.

Maybe the Vikings, Dolphins or even Pittsburgh. Might even be a hail Mary attempt from Phoenix.

And maybe we do it and stick with him after a really strong showing in the playoffs, if we get there.

The biggest problem is that Bryce has had some pretty good performances, just enough to make a front office wonder, but we've also had some really dud coaching games, too. So is Bryce the problem or is it our coaching and game planning.

Hell, we don't even know, so other teams probably are looking at it and seeing that while the odds aren't good, there's a heck of a payoff if they are right.

There's no mystery.

Teams have been playing Young like he can't hurt them with his arm. They're right.

Lamar is the only recent 1st round QB to play all 5 years of his 5th. The others were either cut or extended before the 5th year and those contracts were all massive. Bryce getting 55m a year would be insane.

Yeah, the worst org in all of pro sports ensuring they stay as such.

literally no NFL team has picked up the 5th for a player as bad as Bryce has been.  Folks cheering on bad decisions by the bad decision franchise

Don't forget you aren't talking to a Panthers fan. He changes fanhood based on whatever the hot team is.
