Could Morgan be eyeing Trey Hendrickson

Before I saw the projected contract, my immediate thought was "heck no". But 2 years, $50 million? I mean the top edge rushers are getting over $40 million per year. You're talking about a steep discount because the guy is past the typical prime and coming off an injured year. And the commitment is minimal. Based on typical contract structures, we could likely get out after 1 year in a worst case scenario. But if he's even 80% of the guy who led the league in sacks 2 years in a row? It'll be a bargain and would transform our defense.  We could finally have a decent pass rush with Hendrickson, DBrown, Wharton, and Scourton. I can't envision another single free agent that could have as big of a potential impact.

The best part is you build it to where X amount is guaranteed and split it across 4 years in bonus up front. But leave yourself some wiggle room year 2 just in case you need out of it.

It makes sense but I could totally see Morgan pulling a Jalon Walker here and misdirecting and grabbing somebody else.

I think he gets AJ Epenesa. He was Director of Player Personnel when he was drafted in Buffalo.

It heavily rumored for the Panthers to be in all trade talks with the bungals over trey, but no team was willing to give up 1st and talk ended there. Then they fired up again and still no 1st or 2nd for a guy missing time with injuries.

I personally think Dan was earning brownie points with Trey and his agent, "I always wanted you and tired my hardest to trade, but the bungals bungled".

Great name in AJ Epenesa, he's going to get a bag and maybe the panther are the team. It seems they want to make at least one big splash.

think of the bills and von Miller, that's my guess. Let me look-

Miller is headed to Buffalo to join the Bills on a six-year, $120 million deal, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday. The contract includes an average of $17.5 million per year for the first four seasons and $51 million in guarantees, per Rapoport

add for NFL inflation....

We don’t have the level of talent to really make a comparison but washed up Jared Allen helped us a lot. Just in spots but he made a difference.

Age can be dealt with. Don’t kill their stamina and use them in the high leverage situations, as much as you can orchestrate that.

It depends, is he some kind of final piece? Maybe not for a SB but might be a difference maker in your division? If you can work the money out and it doesn’t restrict your other goals in terms of your roster then you probably do it.

If possible, I’d rather trade for Crosby

I wouldn't at the cost it will require. We aren't one piece away, we are several.

I also want an elite pass rusher(or rushers) but selling out your future for the present is how we ended up so bad in the first place.

For a team with as bad of a roster as we have, those draft picks are like a bevy of lifelines to help us pull ourselves out of the quagmire we are currently in. Trading picks is like intentionally cutting them.

If Trey is a cheapish option, fine. I can predict an Evero still here future on that, in the 2027 offseason people will be saying he should be cut and we were idiots for signing a guy that only got 5-7 sacks. "Trey is washed! Should have traded for *insert younger player who would also have performed poorly in this defense*!"
