Adam Schefter: Panthers getting trade calls for Andy Dalton

Yeah I am saying both those gms knew morgan and took advantage of him more so in the Giants case

Schoen probably did take advantage of Dan being green.
But I don’t know what anyone was gonna get for Burns with the leverage Fitterer gave him for negotiations to be paid, and people knowing we weren’t going to pay him. We were at a disadvantage there to begin with, by that time.  Obviously turning down 2 1sts was fuging ignorance.

It was maybe a bigger complaint from me about how the returns were used.

The XL trade was pretty small potatoes to move up wasn’t it?

To kick this up, The Athletic has a really comprehensive piece out where pretty much all QB questions are addressed. It is worth seeing.
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7083539/2026/03/04/starting-quarterback-projections-free-agency-draft/?source=user_shared_article

I’m putting something specific here but it should have a thread or something. It is an extensive exercise.

This is a dense write up with a lot of column inches used, about the Jets and Murray and Reich, all this stuff.. then it goes to backup QB and there is Dalton.
I am pasting that part:

As for Dalton, Reich is installing the offense he was trying to run in Carolina in 2023 before he got fired, and Dalton was with the Panthers then; he’s an ideal option as a veteran backup to replace Taylor. Reich said this about Dalton in 2023: “The way he's throwing the football, the way he works through progressions, the way he handles the operation. … Since day one (when) he walked in the door, I'm like, 'This guy is starter-worthy.' You guys know I've said that all along. He's, in my opinion, one of the best 32 quarterbacks in the world.”

———

That’s true love lol. I never heard any of this. Pretty crazy I think, considering how the year went.

Anyway the dream is not dead. .

LOL ain't nobody trading for Andy.

He has a lot of contacts. It’s going to depend who wants to trade for him for a near nothing pick and I’ll explain why. Trading him keeps him out of the division if he’s released. Here are some people he’s worked with:

Sean Payton- Den

Brian Callahan-NYG

Pete Carmichael-Buffalo

Frank Reich-NYJ

Josh McCown-Minnesota

What we don’t want is him to get released and end up with:

Alex Van Pelt- Atlanta (Former QB Coach)

Kellen Moore/Doug Nussmeier-NO (Former OC/QB coach)

Ken Zampese-TB (Longtime QB coach in Cincinnati)

So if we can trade him to somebody outside the division for a 7th rounder that’s a win.

Takes two teams wanting him that’s it. His contract isn’t a huge impediment.
It doesn’t matter That much if we release him or get a 7th or whatever token payment we can extract.

Personally I am not scared of him, don’t care where he ends up. The Andy Reich saw was still mostly there, I wonder what he had to say if/when he watched the Buffalo video.

What I pasted is interesting to me more in historical terms, it adds some juicy context to the divide that ended up with Frank fired in season.
Then comes “maybe someone does want him”.

1. I don't think we are worried about facing Dalton twice a year.
2. We would trade him to anyone willing

3. Why TF would anyone trade for him.

Most Likely: He will be released

It’s not his ability that makes me not want him in the NFC South it’s his knowledge of our Offense/Defense, and Bryce’s tendencies which he has mentored for 3 years.

I dont think its a mystery at this point

It actually matters a lot. Literally a dude whose job is to sit on the bench and mentor the QB and has full access to the playbook, audibles, etc. And sees Evero’s defense everyday, let him go to division rival and see how big of a pain in the ass it is.
