BREAKING!!! Panthers signing Packers LT Rasheed Walker

What bothers me about that logic-and I share it with you--is that Morgan has had too many holes to focus on TE and he has drafted TE twice in two years (on day 3).  I think we like Tremble, and we just re-signed Mitchell. They are giving Bryce weapons and protection everywhere else.  However, in a run-first offense, I am not sure Sadiq is the guy you need.

Secondly, a TE in round 1 needs to be a perfect fit.

I think we need to go ahead and draft a T and C.  Good draft for both.  LB is still a need. S is a need. CB or nickel is a need.  TE in round 1 does not move the scale much.

It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us

The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.

If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way

Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.

Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise

And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth

There's a very good chance Ikey has played his last snap for us

Even if he beats the odds, returns midseason  and plays like he did last year it won’t warrant a big contract extension.

Cory Thornton suffered a Fractured fibula not an achillies injury.

This is a great signing on so many levels by Dan Morgan. Gives us a good starting LT for next year and allows us to focus on truly BPA in the first round. Jordyn Tyson, Kenyon Sadiq, Dillon Thieneman, or even trading down to get more picks are all now on the table.

This will allow us to let Ickey take the full season to heal and rehab and not force use to rush him back before he's ready. There's also the added bonus in that Rasheed Walker is a good LT in his own right and could very well play himself into another contract here at LT. This is a good Oline with Moton, Robert Hunt, and Damien Lewis. Luke Fortner can be serviceable at center but if we nail the Center pick in the draft then this is easily a top 5 unit in the league. I wouldn't be shocked if Rasheed Walker had his best season as a pro here and earned another contract and we transition Ickey to guard or RT. At the very least Walker gives us some leverage at the negation table with Ickey and if Walker signs a big contract with another team, we should be in line for a pretty good compensatory pick.

Added context: we have to pay for 6 starting OL this offseason due to Icky’s injury.

At the end of the day we were always walking a tightrope with the OL we were amongst the top 3 or 4 paid units in the league even before Icky got hurt. Injuries are very unfortunate but they are going to happen to any team. And besides even if he hadn't gotten hurt we would have given him a contract extension and we would still have the highest paid OL in the league right now. That's why we should have been addressing the OL in the draft more. I hope to see us begin that approach with the upcoming draft.

If BPA is tackle at 19 I am not crying about it.  Would love more defense but you can never go wrong with oline help if its warranted

If the right prospect falls sure. I just don't want to take one to take one at 19 if there is also quality defensive talent still on the board.

I mean not to sound like a dick. But only the Panthers and their fans think you have to draft one in the first to hit. For all the praise of Morgan's FA which is certainly looking good. Where he will truly cement his role is picking those mid to late round gems in the draft. Without those winning free agency doesn't mean squat 🤷‍♂️
