Have you noticed a change in our competitiveness since we pumped money into our OL?

The OL has certainly been better than the trainwreck it was three or four years ago.

As far as competitiveness let's apply some realism and clarity here. Quite a bit of the competitiveness in 2025 came from the defensive side of the ball which gave up the most points in league history the year before and was one of the bottom 5 units in terms of salary cap allocation for 2025 while the OL was top 3.

We had the 26th passing offense last year. And if not for a herculean couple of games from Rico Dowdle we don't back our way into the division title or make the playoffs because we went 4-6 in our final ten games including being swept by the Saints who were starting a rookie 2nd round pick most of us mercilessly mocked when they selected him.

In conclusion yes we've seen a difference. The question now is will the investment pay off the way we want. But the only way that happens is if we field a top 15 offense. If we can't even crack the top 20 then there need to be some very warm seats across the board. And I would hope just about anyone here should agree with that.

Bryce has had a couple of games where he top fifteened it.

Realize, to be close to top ten he has to do that 4 quarters, probably 15 times with a couple of stinkers thrown in where he is off that day. The good ones, almost all have inexplicable bad days. But overall you have to perform at a high level, dependably, to rate high like that.

So that’s what it takes. Otherwise it is a low to mid 20s and people that just can’t do better after a few chances are backups.

I think Bryce is about to become a top 10-15 QB for the next decade.

List your Top 10 youngish QB’s, including college guys, and include Bryce in there with a straight face.

Josh, Lamar, Drake, Burrow, Mahomes, Jayden, Herbert, CJ, Caleb, Trevor, Love, Purdy, Nix, Hurts, Goff, Baker, Sam, Dak, Mendoza……..

Bryce Young isn’t a top 20 quarterback right now and certainly won’t be top-10 in 10 years.  I sure hope our front office is smarter than that.

At the end of the day we were always walking a tightrope with the OL we were amongst the top 3 or 4 paid units in the league even before Icky got hurt. Injuries are very unfortunate but they are going to happen to any team. And besides even if he hadn't gotten hurt we would have given him a contract extension and we would still have the highest paid OL in the league right now. That's why we should have been addressing the OL in the draft more. I hope to see us begin that approach with the upcoming draft.

Fantastic. There is nothing whatsoever wrong with prioritizing OL. Its about time.

You wouldn’t have guys like Trevor or Darnold on this list if you made it a year or two ago. What happened? They matured in the league and know how to successfully operate an offense now. Bryce is approaching that now and we’re actually surrounding him with talent. He’s been better each year. We did him no favors his first two years here, be it terrible coaching or lack of talent.

How many high level passing games did he produce last season? What is your number?
I am going to say it wasn’t enough using my standards, and was a low enough number that he needs to more than double it.

I’d just be curious to see what your baseline is. I might be able to hold up 5 fingers. Give or take.

He had good games vs the Rams secondary but you see what they thought of their secondary. They signed the poo out of new people as fast as they could.
Atlanta one killer game. I can’t say the first game was much. But maybe.
Dallas was a real nice win I thought he played well.

I go through them and there just aren’t that many. Even if you get to 7 that you think show he deserves the contract if that is his norm, his standard that he will give us, there is a long way to go. I feel like every game needs to have us expecting excellence. Above average. You can’t be perfect so missing a couple is okay but not like, 10.

To clarify, I’m not saying Bryce has been top 15 to date. I think he will be soon and will remain one for a decade if we continue to surround him with talent and OL support. Last season, his 3rd, was undoubtedly the best core of receivers he’s had for a season, and it featured a rookie and 2nd year UDFA as the top two. It’s coming. We’re building it. Time to arrive soon. Obviously, if he isn’t solidly top 15 over the next 1.5 years, we’ll be looking for a replacement.

There's a very good chance Ikey has played his last snap for us

Its possible. Given the situation we will be in the best position to evaluate his recovery. Other teams might be reluctant to pony up. Bad for Icky but given we cant change history it might be ok for the team being in play for LT, RT, or even guard.

I try to be optimistic

It's about time? We've been prioritizing the OL.

In 2024 we were 4th in OL salary

In 2025 we were 1st in OL salary

In 2026 we are once again 1st in OL salary

That's three years running. We didn't just start doing this. So the results on the field should be speeding forward to match up with the salary cap we are burning through. But they aren't. In 2025 we were 27th in total YPG. In 2024 we were 29th in total YPG.

Are any of you actually expecting us to field a top 20 offense in 2026 or are we just setting the bar at winning free agency?

    • I hope he finds his lane in year 2.  Now that we signed Walker, I'm really intrigued how Dan feels about the DL. Is there a piece there in R1 that presents value/BPA and fills a void for one of the spots w/ DB and Wharton.  I'll give Wharton another year to show us why he was signed here. With A'Shawn gone, I don't think BBIII is it.  Our edges are set and our LBs are balanced. Horn/Mike Jack and Moehrig will hold the secondary together. DB is, well...DB.  However, I think this is an area that is the biggest question mark right now. I see 1 of 3 spots that are locked and loaded for us. If we move to a 4 down front, I assume Phillips would slide down to be the additional linemen, but we still have questions about the other two spots in either scheme.  I'd feel better with a tradeback, but I do wonder how McDonald would do here. Maybe Woods....but McDonald really does peek my interest.  Or, can Jackson take that next step. The coaching staff speaks highly of him for what little he played. Here's hoping he stays healthy and comes into TC with something to prove. There's a spot to be taken, here's hoping he takes it.
    • Not many people talking about DT, but we have a need.  (DE)  Now this guy is a NT like Brown III
    • But is it about letting Bryce develop or about winning games? Bryce has not been good enough to be an uncontested starter. He just hasn't. How many times has last drive Bryce shown up for 4 entire quarters? Once in 3 seasons? You aren't going to win 9 or 10 one score games every season year in and year out. You may want Bryce in the last 2 minutes. I want that Bryce the full 60.  No one is saying you have to give up on him, but bringing in another QB that can do anything is not hindering Bryce. It helps the team and that's where the focus needs to be. If drafting Sadiq to plague the middle of the field would help out offense, but Bryce struggles to get pass into the middle of the field, is Sadiq a bad pick? Or could he be a good pick with a better option at QB? We can't be afraid to improve. QB, TE, OL, LB, DL, CB, S. It doesn't matter. The goal is SBs, not 5 to 8 years seeing waiting to see if Bryce can develop while the rest of the league keeps passing us by.  Sadiq is a nice option, but I think we have to address tackle if one we like is there because we are painfully thin after this year, a LB to general the field, and a true ball hawking safety that can set the tone in the secondary. Those 3 positions are bigger game changers than a TE that will likely struggle to make a round 1 impact in this offense.
