Bleacher report not buying Panthers’ hype

Recommended Posts

I dont see the issue.

We had 3 gimmes last year. 3 in division and 2 upset.

Now it is maybe Browns, assuming they keep letting the qb/coach situation drag down a talented roster, and Steelers if there really was a Tomlin factor.

Even with the same 2 upsets, we are looking at 6-11 with one gimmes.

That's not very encouraging given our QB situation lol. Our D-line situation has been a sideways move at best, which was nothing to write home about last year

We've vastly improved 2 of the front 7 with Phillips and Lloyd. We're hopeful that Hunter makes it 3 of the front 7.

You've also got the natural improvement of Scourton, Princeley and Jackson who are all entering their second year in the league.

It's still short of where it needs to be, but progress is being made.

The problem is that you have a very small handful of legit good games to cling to vs. all the rest of Bryce's career. He has to be at his absolute best. Even "good" on the "Bryce curve" is below average for NFL starting QB standards and "average" on the "Bryce curve" is "we need a new fuging QB" for NFL starting QB standards.

Right I totally get that. But we're not getting one this year. If he can hit Darnold's numbers from last year and the D tightens up we should be able to play complimentary football and be pretty good. What we gave up to get him is sunk cost at this point. The teams finally good enough around him to see whatever his best is, no excuses left it's on him to elevate. I've got my doubts but  IF he can it's what's best for the team so might as well just see if he's got more in him. I just want him to answer the question definitively. Either crash and burn or lift the team up

That's the problem. You act like hitting Darnold's numbers is an achievable, modest improvement. Darnold threw for over 1000 more yards than Bryce did last year. That would be a monumental leap for Bryce.
