To me the Shockey signing says a lot more about who the QB is going to be on opening day. I don't think they would go out and get a guy like Shockey (who's been known to bitch if he's not getting enough throws his way) unless they believed there was a proven QB they could acquire. I think this signing makes the chances of us trading for a Carson Palmer type guy much higher....

Yasinskas takes the Shockey signing as an omen that they won't go for a young QB because he thinks the combo of Smith and Shockey could seriously screw up a youngster.

I don't believe they should get a young QB this season either, but I think Pat's reasoning is a bit of a stretch.

Guys this is easy, bring in a receiving te b/c we are bringing back the glove. The glove loved hitting king, now he can hit shockey. The glove is a vet too with potential to push for the starting role again.....

How would a vet TE mess up a young QB? a sure handed guy like Shockey will take pressure off of him.

As far as the topic imo it's a mixture of our HC getting what he wants and a good sign for the CBA.

Don't think the team thought there would have been a player worthy of even a 1 year deal, becoming available before the cba expired.

I don't think it means anything. JR had no intentions of signing a FA before the new CBA, but Shockey's release was from left field. It was too good of an opportunity to pass on.

I think what Rayzor is saying about Richardson knowing something isn't too far off has legs. Multiple times they said they weren't going to even resign our guys until a CBA was in place.

More so confirmed by the extension this afternoon.

one thing i have been thihnking about is the timing of the shockey signing.

here richardson and hurney were saying that we wouldn't/couldn't sign anyone until the CBA was done, but here we are adding shockey to the team.

2 possiblilities here...

1) richardson and hurney weren't serious about no signings till the CBA and were blowing smoke or

2) CBA is all but a done deal, or at least richardson thinks so (in which case it probably is)

is there something more to it than that?

To me, it just shows that Rivera isn't a lameduck coach and they are gonna let him make moves so that his team can function. I also think Rivera has more pull than some think and is legitimately going to be given a chance to win his way.........which IMO means a QB move of some form is coming.

I think our guys that aren't being extended aren't b/c for the most part they believe they will be retained.

I wish we'd all stop reading between the lines, thinking things are smokescreens, reading too much into this, reading too much into that, banking on this, banking on that, debating over what one lame reporter said because another lame reporter said something else, etc. I think it's as simple as this: the FO are humans just like you and I. They thought they weren't going to sign anyone until the CBA was done. Then Shockey was sitting there and they said, hmm, I think we better get this guy before someone else does. SIMPLE as that.
