Panther top 6 all time busts...

haha - Shelton was given all the opportunity in the world to succeed here. I remember a week after they finally cut him, Fox said at a press conference that you can just talk to certain players and its obvious they will never make it in the NFL, no matter how big and strong they are.

So far Fox has been right.

Shelton was drafted in the second round (54th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers with a pick they obtained from the Seattle Seahawks. Shelton's NFL career got off to a rough start as he was placed on injured reserve at the beginning of the 2005 NFL season due to a broken foot. In the 2006 season, Shelton rushed for 23 yards on only eight carries, and was activated in only eight games. After a disappointing career with the Panthers he was released by them on September 1, 2007.

So he came in and immediately got injured. That's always bad, but he only got 8 touches in two years with us.

I remember him having good Preseason games. I think there's something more to what happened to Shelton than playbook problems. Probably more like Foxy-no-likely-him problems.

Alas, we'll probably never really know.

It wouldn't have made a difference if we hadn't traded that 1st rounder for Brown because I can just about guarantee we'd have used it to draft Clausen anyway and if that were the case we would never be considering taking a QB 1st overall this year, or likely for at least 3 more years.

That trade may have actually done a lot more good than harm, all things considered, even if Brown hasn't become the player we expected. Also consider that we got Mike Goodson as part of that trade.

If it was just a matter of Fox not liking him, he would have done well elsewhere.

Bruce Nelson belongs on this list.

In a few years, Armanti Edwards will as well.

And Biakabatuka can't really be considered a bust because he was productive when not injured. The hate on Timmy B has never been justified.

bruce nelson and kerry colbert are much bigger busts compared to everett brown. This is a bs list

Not sure I agree about Bruce Nelson. Technically he could be considered a bust, but it was more bad luck than bad pick. Who knew he would have a degenerative hip disease?

Colbert gave us a pretty good rookie year, but didn't coexist with Smitty nearly as well as he did Moose. And one good season is more than Shelton or Jarrett ever gave us.

You have to include Peters, Carruth, and Anderson on the list. Timmy B gives you a strong argument as well. And first rounders should get more emphasis as well. So my top six would be those four, Jarrett, and Shelton.

FWIW, Brown improved last year, and will probably continue to get better. Give him a stud DT to play next to, and I bet he gets better still. This guy really didn't do his homework before making his list.

I'd add Jerry Richardson's idea to go cheap and young in 2010 to the list. With Fox as a head coach and expecting him to play a bunch of rookies because there's no one else on the roster all the while knowing you're gearing up for a lockout.

Have to definitely add that to the "Bust" list.
