RT @ZReportDraft: Sources say Panthers leaning towards sticking w/ Claussen & waiting for QB. Scouts saying "put Dareus 1 & keep him there"

They were the same ones who reported people were questioning Cam's leadership cuz of the TD run in the BCS game. It did come up in the interview process.

I would be satisfied.

PP is my favorite pick, but Dareus sure as hell is a monster.

I am not suprised by this news, Rivera did say we would draft according to biggest postion of need, right?

IMO, our rush defense was more of a liability than our QB play. We have some great weapons on offense and a new coordinator than may be able to use all of those players to their potental, encluding Clausen and Edwards.

the 8th ranked defense in the league, is surely not as big as a problem as the 32nd ranked offense, QB play was horrible

Doubt it I would believe this to be true if we still had Fox to be honest with the reports of our team wanting to have a more aggressive identity or what not.

Our Defense is not a MAJOR issue while he would be a good pick and would contribute we have bigger needs..April 28th seems to be taking forever and a day to come around SMH.

Rivera can't take that kind of gamble....not starting his NFL HC career. Whether you love or hate Clausen......you can't as a new coach ride him this next season. Won't happen.

? Not sure what you are trying to say here.

I think the fact that we don't have a 2nd likely increases the chance that we won't draft a QB #1. If we do and they fail then that will set us back and will not be good for Rivera's tenure. He needs to get the most sure fire prospect he can and Dareus is one of those guys. Plus we are ridiculously weak at DT, at least there is some hope of talent at the current QB situation. It will also be easier to land a veteran QB in FA than it would a good DT in FA.

I'm saying Rivera will not start his debut coaching season w/ Jimmy Clausen as the QB.....too big of a risk. I'm not saying w/ draft Cam....but the logic Rivera is going to roll w/ Clausen lacks little logic.

basically, it is staying Rivera is gonna start a rookie QB (which is what Clausen's level of play will be)who will be totally unfamilair w/ his offense and who likely could miss chunks of camp to be learning it.

We can get some talent in FA to improve at DT. D overall is strong. Clausen level QB play causes an offense to implode and a D to suck. It is a very real possible Clausen will be worse next season if he plays.

The only issue I had was the "source" claiming he was sticking w/ Clausen. I think Rivera could easily draft a DT....but he still has to find a QB.

    • So the last guy who had the job got hired by his former team directly into a role he has no direct experience in?
    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
