People afraid of drafting Cam Newton

are afraid of taking chances in life. They are probably stuck in middle management...if they made it that far. Stuck in a no a where job. They don't dream. They are afraid of greatness. Their wives hate them and their kids don't look up to them.

they are the type people who are content w/ Jimmy Clausen sucking it up another year. My little boy is only a couple weeks old but if I told him Jimmy Clausen should have "another go" he would do one of those crane kicks from the Karate Kid and kick me in the balls. I don't know how the little sack of potatoes would perform such an advanced move but he would. Needless to say, would support Cam coming to Carolina!!

Difficult to work out if this is serious or not...

There are risks and then there are calculated risks. Those people that you claim that have achieved greatness through constant risk taking, are either very lucky or very calculated with the risks they take.

Is Newton a complete gamble, or are the odds on his side? History suggests his style of playing won't produce long term success, however the recent shift to mobile QBs is in his favor.

Unfortunately I don't see him as a mobile QB, once he takes his eyes from down the field he is only trying to do one thing. The great mobile QBs buy time with their legs and then throw. Cam buys time to create a running lane.

This also leads to people only stealing sips of beer and not the whole bottle.

Jk :D

...and people that take foolish chances don't even make it to middle management, they're living in a van down by the river.

It's easy when you're at the bottom of the totem pole to tell people at the top that they should take risks, when those at the bottom already have nothing to lose, maybe just a couple of corn crops.

    • What's wrong with Damien Lewis? He played pretty well last year.
    • Official NFL Cuts Tracker Deadline for roster cuts is Tuesday, August 26th. At this moment (Friday, August 22nd) the only interesting names I see are... K Caden Davis (BUF) RB Ameer Abdullah (SF) WR Equanimeous St. Brown (SF) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (NO) LB Khaleke Hudson (TEN) Abdullah, St. Brown, Peoples-Jones I don't exactly think we should cut anybody for but it was just interesting seeing those names. Khaleke Hudson was on the Panthers' practice squad last year I believe and might have even gotten called up? And of course, Caden Davis just because of the question mark at kicker this season for the team.
    • I'll say 6/10. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole. For all the hype surrounding Sanders/Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
