Rivera Talks QBs

No rookie DT is gonna be the face of the franchise. CB? Revis is the best in the game but Sanchez is the Face of the Jets. Beyond that Beason is the face of our D; that isn't changing anytime soon. WR? Hard to be a great wide receiver if the ball doesn't make it to you.

Also, TO was the face of the Cowboy's franchise? First I've heard of that. I thought it was Romo, and TO was ruining the locker room so he got booted.

Face of the Franchise is the one player you think of when you hear a teams name. Right now, our Face of the Franchise, is Steve Smith. Now if Carolina is looking for a new Face of the Franchise, that prolly means Smiths days are numbered. and Sorry, When I think of Dallas, you dont think of Tony Romo. lol thats just funny.

When I think of the Cowboys I think of a steaming pile of dirty poo. But all the Cowboys fans I know (quite a few unfortunately) love Romo and talk about his "greatness" non stop.

umm Face of the Franchise doesnt necessarily mean qb. For example.

Dallas had Terrel Owens, Emmit Smith, Michael Irvin

San Fran had Jerry Rice

Detroit had Barry Sanders

Cincy has Ocho Cinco

Baltimore has Ray Lewis

etc etc

Of those, only Sanders, Lewis, and Chad were bigger than their respective quarterbacks... well, TO was bigger, but not necessarily in a good way

As long as it's not Cam Newton.

Here is a list of the QBs I would take with the first pick (or even in the top 10):

Blaine Gabbert.

Here is a list of the QBs I would take in the second round, in order:

Cam Newton

Christian Ponder

Collin Kaepernick

Here is a list of QBs I would take with the 65th pick:

Nah, I would not take a QB after round 2

The media is asking, almost constantly.

It was Rivera who initiated the "hey, we're not just looking at quarterbacks" story.

Thanks Scot it seem like every time you see a Rivera interview they only show or write what he thinks about the QB position. When I know he is looking at other position.

My list for the first round would be:

Andrew Luck

Second round:

Newton

Mallett

Gabbert

Third round:

Stanzi

Devlin

I won't be surprised or terribly upset if we take one of those second round guys with our first though.

    • Oh for those tired of the Mannings I have bad news, Peytons son Marshal already has college teams after him and he isn't even in HS until this fall...   I'd wager we have two Mannings in the NFL in 2030
    • Push em to the brink!!! Shut em down Freddie!
    • I tend to look at all of these guys and wonder how committed they are to doing special teams? It's a big deal when you're fighting for roster spots. And we need massive refreshes to all phases of the special teams game. And the idea that four or five of these players could see rotational use outside of special teams would be a win. This team has accumulated quite a bit of dead wood over the last five years and its time to take an axe to some of it. These new fellows have a shot to benefit from that if they can really push. That being said, wow that receivers room is crowded right now. I'm not sure if I was a vet player with more than 2 years experience other than Adam Thielen if I'd be too sure of my future here. Tet is guaranteed a spot, Coker earned his for sure and they aren't done with XL developing yet. That's only two to three spots left for the entire room. It's going to be very competitive and better for Bryce's future, too. Safety and linebacker are the opportunity spots here this season. There's room for the right guy and we may see a starter eventually from one of these UDFAs, either by merit or injury.
