Arranging prospects by pro-readiness

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

"Pro ready" is a good thing to have. But let's be clear, it doesn't guarantee pro success.

Neither do...

- Superior athleticism

- Leading college stats

- Playing in a pro system

- Playing for a winning program

- Coming from a strong conference

- College level championships and awards

- Great measurables

- Great intangibles

All of those are good things to have, but they're no guarantee of pro success because such a thing simply doesn't exist.

Bunting? I like him sometimes, not so much others He's certainly not a Mayock, a Brandt or a Gosselin.

His writer profile on Bleacher Report says this:

He completed a football GM and scouting course from Sports Management Worldwide, studying under Marc Trestman and Russ Lande, and has published scouting reports for NFLSmackdown.com, Scout.com and NFLDraftscout.com. He’s a member of the Football Writers Association of America.

I've wondered whether he was related to John Bunting but couldn't find anything. Seems possible. Would make sense giving him an inside track.

Guys that have been GM's or could be GM's like Casserly and Mayock say the following:

Casserly "Newton not even in my first round"

Mayock "Fairly not even in my first round"

Mayock has actually been closer to what actually happens with real GM's and real teams and he has Dareus as #1 rated player. I would think he would be there because he seems to be ready to be a starter day one and 5 years from now, will be a household name (as far as DT's can be a household name)

I didn't need those ratings to realize that

Gabbert is 2 tiers higher then Newton, its obvious.

Dareus is ready to suit up and play in the NFL.

He will be forcing a lot of 3 and outs and will be a game changer.

I'm an AJ guy with the first pick (especially if Smitty is leaving sooner than later). However my second choice is QB. Think this mock sums it up nicely:

2. New regimes mean new quarterbacks. The Panthers have absolutely nothing at the quarterback position, and Ron Rivera will be looking for his guy.

The links in the article are helpful, as to why. I have to agree, overall. Though, I still lean towards Cam, but a Blanie pick won't make me lose sleep.

Casserly picked Heath Shuler and David Carr as his quarterback picks. So I would intentionally do the opposite of whatever he says.

Mayock has Newton going in the top 8 picks.

As for Fairley, he is ranked the 8th best player in the draft by Mayock.

I don't understand your logic here.
