Gabbert question

Jackofalltrades

Recommended Posts

Everyone knows I'm anti- QB with the first pick, but I was wondering what the knock on Gabbert is?

I know Cam has the run option, one read and run knock in addition to character issues.

Mallet has coke abuse to answer for.

Gabbert- I haven't seen anything other than the spread stuff.

My main point is, and it's been brought up here, is Gabbert's arm strength, but everything I've read said he has a good arm and can make ALL the throws. I know he lacks elite arm strength like Newton and Mallet but if he can make all the throws does it matter, even if we run a vertical offense?

Just curious.

He's only a two year starter and actually regressed in his second year. He has shaky mechanics, throws off his backfoot far too often, needs work on taking snaps under center. He does OK if you can keep his jersey spotless but panics like a little bitch whenever he gets the slightest bit of pressure.

Great size, mobility and decent enough arm strength. He's a guy that's gotten hype because of the measurables and what he can do in a workout in shorts with no pass rush. To me you don't take a guy #1 based on that.

Most people question his 3rd down %, his lack of touchdowns passes, and his lack of completions deep down field.

However I feel that each of these can be explained by his offense.

The 3rd down % is easiest because Missouri was constantly throwing. Opposing defenses basically didnt have to worry about the run. So as a result basically every 3rd down was long. It was either feast or famine. Either a dump off where the reciever didnt get anything or a pass where the receiver would get a first down. So as a result most of the third downs were long.

His lack of touchdowns and lack of long completions all come down to one thing: his lack of quality receivers. The year before he had Alexander who was a deep threat. This year he had a bunch of 3rd and slot receivers trying to stretch the field and it wasnt really working. It also led to Missouri running it a lot when then got inside the 10 instead of tossing it up to the corner.

He also comes from a one read offense...the difference between him and Cam is if cam's first read isn't open then he pulls it down and makes a play with his legs...which is frowned upon this day and age. Gabbert gets happy feet...doesn't hang in the pocket however he does keep his eyes downfield while he runs towards the sideline and out of bounds.

I agree with what was said earlier about the lack of QB talent in the draft...that's why Gabbert came out this year. Because he has a chance to be a top 10 pick. But there have been worse QB prospects before...Tim couch/akili smith, David Carr/Joey Harrington.

pocket presence needs work. too often he rolls out to his right. it's a knock people actually had about bradford too... well, some anyway. it's not uncommon for quarterbacks in college with the kind of line he had to have that kind of question mark.

Shitty production in college (at least for a player in consideration for the #1 overall pick). Not even regarded as the best QB in his conference last year.

All the talk about him as a potential #1 pick or even first round pick is based on the fact that he "looks" like a prototypical QB.

Add it up and it spells gigantic bust potential. The guy he reminds me most of is Kyle Boller, not in terms of how he plays but in the ridiculous way he shot up the draft boards despite marginal college production.

Not saying college production means everything, it doesn't, but for someone to be considered for a #1 pick, it has to be there.

    • Sunday Ticket is now offering a monthly subscription if you're not interested in subscribing for the full package Keep in mind that the full package will be less expensive than getting billed monthly for the same timeframe.  But for a one-off month situation? Certainly an option to consider they also don't seem to mind if 2 households share the same Sunday Ticket login. If you call and ask for discounts, they kinda allude to "do you have a friend you can share the cost with" in the conversation
    • Watching ALL the games will require: Antenna or cable access to local broadcast partners to view the games of the local team. Due to blackout restrictions, the local games will not be available on Sunday Ticket.  What this means is that you DON'T NEED Sunday Ticket to view those local team's games. All games for a local team will ALWAYS be available on a local broadcast partner, no subscription required I've had success streaming the evening Sunday and Monday national games directly off the NFL/NBC/ABC websites, no subscription required. That said, ESPN may require login via your cable provider account - but it's included in your cable fee, so have fun with that.  NBC is available for free via antenna (or avail via cable, take your pick -- and ABC has been simulcasting the ESPN games, so that's also an antenna/free optio. The Peacock and Netflix exclusive games will require subscriptions to those services if the teams are not your local team YouTube will broadcast the Brazil game free  NFL Network for those random thursday games that aren't your local team... until the ESPN partnership comes into play, in which case your ESPN subscription should give you access (lots of assumptions with this bullet) Everything else is pretty much Sunday Ticket or go to your local bar I may have missed one, but the general gist is above In short, don't believe the online influences who say you need to purchase a full-year subscription to a service to watch "all" the NFL games (ie full year of Peacock). Because you don't need a full-year sub.   So no -- there is not a single service that will let you watch ALL the games Sunday Ticket will only cover you only for the sunday daytime games.
    • Aaaaaaand... ND immediately throws an INT. Tried to run that same screen they've ran a dozen times tonight and Miami had two defenders sitting on it and he threw it anyway.
