A couple of weeks ago, Commissioner Roger Goodell sent a letter to all players regarding the offer that the NFLPA* left on the table. It went over like a lead balloon. Coated in tungsten steel. Tied to a big-ass anchor.

Now, Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy and Panthers owner Jerry Richardson, both former NFL players, have penned a letter to all retired players.

What is next? Richardson hires a physic to make contact with deceased players? He pays visits to pee wee leagues around the nation to get them on board?

Maybe I missed the point of a VERY long article.... or maybe I am beginning to believe JR is half a nut job.

I did like reading about some of the bullet points they claim was in their proposal.

Richardson is a former player I'm sure he gives a damn. He certainly cares about the little people at the stadium. Even though he's a self made multi-millionaire I doubt he's as stone cold as he's painted out to be. Yeah he wants to make money but he's not looking to leave anybody out in the cold.

This is a shrewd move. If they can get the retired players on their side they will have a large upper hand in the PR department at the very least. It would also be compelling testimony to have a former player on your side to get someone who is not an owner talking up the owners proposal.

Hard for NFLPA to say it is the worst deal in the history of sports if former players are talking about it being a really good deal. Undermines the NFLPA*'s credibility. From a strategy point of view I like it a lot.

The NFLPA disrespected and treated like poo the retired players rep just a week or two ago which didn't go over well.

The fans supporting the players need to understand they dont give a poo about former players or anyone that has built this game into what it is today. They just want to get theirs and fug everyone else.

I really hope the judge bends them over hard.

Given that the retired players have sued the NFL in the same kind of suit as the NFLPA based on antitrust grounds, the owners are simply going through the motions of inclluding them in on their negotiations. The general thinking iis that because the retired players are not members of the NFLPA, their suit may have more merit than the Players do at this point.

Richardson is looking down the road and this letter is actually proof that he is far from senile. This is a scripted attempt to include the retired players in all this and mitigate some of the lawsuit issues.

I think Richardson and Murphy's letter is setting the stage for the owners and the NFL Alumni to stripe the NFLPA of their bargaining repersentation of past and future players and the "other lawsuite" is a part of the setup. Not only is that lawsuite as damaging to the NFL, it's that damaging to the NFLPA. The NFL Alumni can ask the judge to give them their own bargaining powers since the NFLPA is no longer the NFLPA.

This would mean that the NFL Alumni would then represent all players (past, present and future). It's a shrud move but if a union isn't currently active, another one, made of mostly of retired players, can come in and take it's place. At least that is my understanding.

I find it funny that the NFL gives most of the money it takes from fines to the retired players yet they still want to bite the hand that feeds them. What has the NFLPA done for retired players you ask? Told them they dont Rep Retired players and thats it....

Richardson didn't write the letter...I'm certain he simply drew a couple of pictures on a sheet of paper and pointed at the pictures and explained that he and the owners are all on the same page as that picture. Editors removed the "Michelle Beadle is hot" references.

      The "now it's been three years" Grade for the 2023 Draft

      Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
