Another LaFell/Gettis thread

Jerry Rice was that way. Catch a TD, hand the ball too the ref as if he's been there before and he'll be back again soon. No big whoop.

A J Green is like that as well.

Rice has a reputation as a diva, just not in terms of his behavior on the field.

IMO, the 3 best WRs in the NFL are Andre, Calvin, and Fitz....none of which are divas like a Smitty.

That's because all three of them get virtually every pass on their team. Also, there were lots of rumors that Fitz and Boldin didn't get along very well behind the scenes.

and Smitty has always gotten almost every pass.......he has always gotten an absurd ratio of the offensive pass attempts.

Yes but, IMO Smitty's antics go well beyond the "WR Diva" to more of the just plain Diva. (Batman, Robin and Randy = uber divas) WR's like Smitty, TO, Ocho and Moss are the exceptions not the norm. Players like AJohnson, Calvin, Fitz and White are all WR Divas; me first, heads the size of zeppelins and whine to their coaches and QBs about getting the ball. But, like I said, the ones who do it in public are the outliers.

Fitz is more of a diva than Smitty. He doesn't do end zone dances and get hyped up, but he's a behind-the-scenes diva. He doesn't demand the ball (because he already gets it plenty) he demands the dollars. While Smitty's been chewing out Clausen for ***** up, Fitz has been going to management trying to dictate the QB situation for the team. This may all be speculation, I haven't heard any definitive evidence (other than the contract stuff), but it fits the character profile that I've seen of Fitz.

and you don't think Smitty is trying to dictate the QB situation now?

Neither were that way in College either.

How do you know?

I watched Baylor play one game when Gettis was in college, and to be honest, I don't remember much about Gettis in that game, except that he was the leading receiver on a primarily rushing team. But I don't think that was enough to judge how much he wanted the ball. IMO, at a school like Baylor that doesn't get a lot of attention, he could be the biggest prima donna in the world, and no one would notice.

Um no? He might be pissed off about it but I've heard nothing about him being called in to consult on the matter and he hasn't said anything that anyone knows about. So there's nothing to make one believe he's trying to influence the QB situation at all.

I'm a big follower of LSU football, and watched his entire career there. I read a lot about Gettis after we drafted him. Both guys are the same--low key, humble, religious, and high character.

From what I remember in interviews Gettis is incredibly intelligent and soft spoken.

I think Lafell might just be dumb as poo.

He's not. But he sure comes across that way on twitter.

Both sound a lot like Moose. And if they turn out to be as good as Moose, I think we got a couple of steals.

    • Yeah not taking that Burns trade was infinitely stupid. We seem to be finally righting the ship but, imo, our biggest issue since Tepper bought the team has been coaches and management having a poor understanding of where our own roster is at. Starting with that idiot Rhule drinking his own kool-aid and thinking he was going to come and take the NFL by storm with Teddy freaking Bridgewater. Could have just kept Cam on the last year of his contract and gone from there but noooo that fat slob had to feel like he was the big man on campus. First round wizard Marty Hurney who, for whatever his faults, has a freaking HOF track record with first round picks, wants to trade up for Hebert but fat fug Rhule says no. Then we kept Rhule for 3 years which is absolutely unbelievable to me and every single year he treated our roster like it was just one player away trading our draft picks for Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield who have proven since leaving that Matt Rhule was an even bigger idiot of a coach than we thought. We finally seem to understand we are a ways off and trade CMC, but then we don’t take the actual good trade for Brian Burns who was never better than a run of the mill situational pass rusher. Then we botch the self scout of our OL (and team) after Wilks, even though they were bad before Wilks simplified the scheme, thinking they can execute whatever the hell Reich and Brown were trying to do. So we win a couple meaningless games playing dummy ball and Fitterer thinks we’re a player away again. And nobody even considers that having the slowest receiving corps imaginable with Damiere freaking Byrd, who can’t even make it to the season before being injured and cut, as your only hope for speed, coupled with the worst pass blocking OL I’ve ever seen, might lead to titanic levels of disaster. The way Canales and Morgan have been adamant about constantly bringing competition at every position has been refreshing and made a huge difference. I was kind of worried that we had fallen into our old ways leading up to the draft with all the talk of defense only and worried that they might feel the offense was set. Very glad to see they were not complacent on that. My big thing now is I’m still wondering why Evero is still here. I can’t think of a single player who has gotten better under him, and the Broncos defense got better once he left. We’ll see.
    • really good interview that gives some insight into their decision making process in making up the schedules and the issues they run into with so many people broadcasting games now. also some interesting discussion on what they have going on and where they might be heading in the international games. vikings have 2 of them, btw. we might be seeing more of that.
    • wow i absolutely LOVED watching that.   will watch again...and again...and again.
