No, he was killed in the books too, although in a different manner.

debatable...

As far as the end of episode 4...

no really, I am going to mention specific names and events... do not proceed unless you want to potentially be spoiled

I think they are dead, but I haven't read any of the mentioned speculation.

As a book reader, it wouldn't piss me off so bad... I mean, are people mad that Barristan may be dead? He serves no real purpose other than being Queensguard for a while and then when the Ironborn arrive (which looks like it might not even happen in the show)... As for Grey Worm... Meh... See above...

Might have to carry this over to the book thread if it gets too deep here...

I suppose it is debatable. I just assumed he was dead considering the shape he was in...but I guess with this series it's best not to assume.

Yeah he was roughed up a bit... But I think the theory that he's the grave digger at the monastery is correct... That is the beauty of ASOIAF though... so many potential directions with a lot of the characters...

With loads of it predicated on not being able to see faces.  It's one of the downfalls of having a limited 3rd person viewpoint which gives the author loads of leeway for keeping identities (and intent) hidden but then trying to translate that to a visual medium where the viewer is in fact not limited when it comes to who is who (at least visually).

Which leads us all into the batshit crazy theories.

Yep. Whitebeard threw me off in the books and when his identity was finally revealed I was like "holy poo!!"

Can't do that on TV which kinda stinks
