QB Camp: Gabbert

What? Gabbert has the physical and the Mental, it's a matter of whether he can put them together or not. No denies his physical or Mental.. 6.5 235 strong arm, and runs a 4.6.. what more physical do you want?

Not saying he's a physical washout. Just not a special physical specimen.

I worry more about his nerves, honestly.

I can guarantee you that Gabbert, Mallett or any other top college QB could have had the production that Cam had at Blinn. The difference is, that they didn't have to go to JUCO for a year. Mallett left Michigan and immediately had offers from other FBS schools. Cam went to Blinn because he had to prove that he could keep his nose clean and play at a high level before any schools would even touch him.

No he left because Tebowz decided to come back.

So you want a guy who can produce in an extremely unconventional college system who may not even be able to read and understand the playbook over a guy who has shown the knowledge to play on an NFL level....

Because you can teach someone the playbook. But other things are not so easily taught.

IMO, the areas where Newton excels over Gabbert include:

1) Excellent field vision. Go back and look at the Auburn games. He has the ability to scan the field and make quick decisions, generally with a successful outcome. That includes finding the open receiver, anticipating where the defender will be, and finding running lanes.

2) Keeping cool under pressure. Find some plays where Newton panics and makes a really boneheaded play. I can't remember any.

3) Great ability to extend plays. I don't care about the 40 times. Put a ball in Newton's hands when no one is open and there is a running lane, and watch the magic.

While debatable, I also believe Newton has a better throwing motion. When he sets his feet as he will in the pro's, he has one of the most natural and fluid throwing motions I have ever seen.

Gabbert's head is definitely more pro-ready right now. Give them both two years, and I think you will see Newton greatly surpassing anything Gabbert can do on the field.

We have no actual proof of what or how many it was. Have heard speculation he turned in papers off the internet, cheated on exams, etc... but none of the reports have ever been confirmed. I realize that sounds naive, but something important to keep in mind here is that stuff is meant to be confidential so if it was leaked it was likely done so with some kind of agenda - it's not like someone could just have stumbled over it.

I have no doubt he did cheat somehow, but there was also a quote by someone who was part of Florida's judicial group responsible for expulsions (as in the highest level) that said Cam Newton's file hadn't reached them, so while he could have been going up the process, he wasn't as close as some reports have made him to being expelled.

Well, that and he was about the be expelled for cheating numerous times.

Jesus Tapdancing Christ look something up.

In November 2008 while at Florida, Newton was arrested on felony charges of burglary, larceny and obstruction of justice after allegedly purchasing a laptop that was reported stolen by a Florida student and traced to Newton. The charges were later dropped after Newton took part in a pretrial diversion program.

Newton was suspended from the Gators football team. He was later welcomed back, but he elected to transfer when Heisman winner The Golden Calf of Bristol decided to return for his senior year.
