I want to flip the script on you to see what your true opinion is.

Here is the scenario: Panthers have the number one pick. You all seem to be in agreement that Luck would be worth the #1 pick. Here is the twist. Luck is not the BPA. There is a better ranked DT, WR, and CB. Who do you draft and why.

Analyst are split saying we should take Luck #1 while others say we should take a different prospect. Everything about the Panthers and the NFL exist as it does this very minute. Also Cam Newton does not exist in this scenario so do not even bring his name up in this thread please.

If Luck is not the BPA, why would we all think he was worth the #1 pick? Some of us might not.

Didn't you know?? Andrew luck is already in Canton. Nobody will ever be a better prospect than Andrew Luck. For you to even suggest that is blasphemy.

...except that I've never seen a single person suggest that andrew luck would be so good he could change the game forever, whereas you've actually said that about Cam.

and yes. :beatdeadhorse5:

Same reason people who want Newton think he is worth the number 1 pick even though he is not the BPA. Not sure how you don't understand the idea behind the thread. If I can add something to the op to make it more clear please let me know.

I am not Mr. Scot, nor am I adamantly against drafting a QB, but I would say draft Luck either way. It has nothing to do with how good or bad the other prospects are. Luck doesn't need to be BPA, he just needs to convince you that he's a franchise QB. I don't think anyone who's arguing against Cam/Gabbert etc. are arguing this just because they think the other projects are better, they are arguing this because they think these QB's are bad prospects full stop.

I would take Luck, but this hypothetical scenario is different than the one we are in.

Whereas in yours luck is around the 5th BPA in our position of greatest need, Newton is roughly the 10th or lower BPA in real life, and not even the highest touted QB prospect in the draft.

I'm all for drafting a QB this year, I just want him to be the right one.

People, here at least, claim everyone fell for the Luck media hype and he isn't as good as claimed. If that is the case, then he wouldn't be hyped if he wasn't the BPA so he wouldn't have the same support. That makes it hard to answer your question since the reason so many want Luck is because he was considered the BPA.

Disclaimer: I never watched Luck so I have no idea how good he is. Just offering an opinion

If this is about next years draft, then Luck isn't even the Consensus # 1 pick / best QB in the draft anymore.

He has a chance to be the 2nd or 3rd rated QB in next years draft. I think he ends up behind Barkley for sure, he has a chance ended up behind Landry Jones as well.

Theres also a chance that he still doesn't declare for next years draft.

Lets see if Luck can come even close to what he did last season on a loaded offense with a great oline and good running game.

I don't think he comes even close, I think he drops back to earth and his stats will look closer to his freshman numbers then the Sophmore numbers.

As for the general question, if you need a QB and you think one in the draft is worth taking at #1, then you make the move and draft him. Point blank simple

Yep. Pretty easy question. The answer to this year's situation isn't any different just because you throw another name in.

If Luck were not the BPA at a position of need, we should take the guy who is. It ain't rocket science.

Like I said I thought you guys would get the point but instead people keep making excuses. If I have to state that Luck = Newton just flip flop the two then I will. It seems that most people on here want a QB, WR, DT, or CB with the #1 pick. That is why I only referenced those 4.

    • i just feel like i read this he says she says poo all the time over & over again  on the internet  TV  work ,in public & then i think back to myself oh what a sick slandermongering world we live in now. ts just like those National Enquirer magazines you find in the grocery store at the checkout counter which are nothing more than complete & utter BS  & more often than not when you assume something then you make an ASS out of U & ME. so chill &  let the courts do their job & if he is guilty well he is guilty  LOL either or this has nothing at all whatsoever to do with Carolina Panthers football
    • Former league executive and current NFL.com analyst Marc Ross recently named his top second-year breakout candidates for the upcoming campaign. Ross includes Legette, who may be helped out by his team's latest first-round selection. He writes: Legette had a slow start to his NFL career, catching 49 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns last season. Some of the struggles can be tied to his own growing pains -- he had eight drops on 81 targets, according to Pro Football Focus -- but he had also had to navigate the quarterback shuffle between Bryce Young and Andy Dalton early in Dave Canales' first season leading the Panthers. Canales recently said he believes Carolina has a DK Metcalf-like talent in Legette, who had foot surgery this offseason but was cleared to resume work in early April, and that having a full offseason alongside Young, who took a significant step forward in 2024, could lead to a breakout result in 2025. I anticipate it will also help that Carolina invested another first-round pick in a wide receiver, Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan, to complement Legette in the pass game. McMillan's presence, however, could take some pressure off Legette—who may be able to roam around in a more natural playmaking role. With the 6-foot-4 All-American likely to take on the bulk of the volume from Young, Legette should have some cleaner shots to break out downfield and in the box score.     https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2025/05/06/panthers-wr-xaiver-legette-top-breakout-candidates-2025/83475176007/?taid=681a4610ede05d000149b376&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter
