Shake up at the top of the draft?

how is this a shake up? people have been saying this since last week and no one from the panthers has said one way or the other that they was going to pick cam anyway

What?

Every mock draft that has been shown, and every indication from the Panthers has been that we are taking him.

Of course this would be a shake-up.

I'm beginning to think we don't take him either. It just doesn't feel like a pick Hurney would make, and I think it's too much of a risk at that spot.

And as much as I hate Clausen, I'm beginning to change my mind a bit on Cam. I wouldn't be upset if we took him, but I personally think it may be too risky for the #1.

When Luck decided to go back to school, I took a hard look at the top prospects in the draft and first tried to figure out who not to take. Cam and Miller were the easiest ones to knock off the list. When every indication was/is that we are taking Cam starting showing I was totally freaking out.

Now, not so much. I don't think that he can be a "great" QB, but I am not going to stop watching the Panthers even though they make a choice that I didn't like.

These "analysts" have been in agreement for the past month that they think Carolina will take Newton, whether they agree or not that they SHOULD take him.

Gantt, Peter King, Yasinkas, Gosselin, and many others have all said they would be shocked if Cam wasn't the pick.

Let the shock begin....Newton may go #1, but it won't be to the Panthers

When has a team ever mentioned before the draft who they wanted to take?

It would be a change up of huge proportions.

all the time w/ the #1 overall......but that is when contract work can be started and the team wants to ensure they won't be a problem child in regards to a contract before drafting them.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
