who is one guy you like that is projected to go 4th round or later?

you can only pick one, you can't pick someone that another poster already previously picked (srry Kaepernick hype train passengers) and don't just pick a guy do some research and write some analysis on why we should take him like if you think he's underrated or he fits our offense mkay

Owen Spencer - WR - NC State

Projected: 6th-UDFA

6'2" - 195 lbs

40 yard dash: 4.51 (4.44-4.59)

Vertical Jump: 37 1/2

ACO seems to favor taller wide receivers, and Spencer has enough speed to be a deep threat in our system. He has good hands, and was consistently productive with a QB who routinely threw to 8-10 different guys a game. His route running needs some work before he will make an impact. But, if he can get that down, he could be a big time steal.

Ryan Whalen, WR, Stanford. Reminds me a lot of Proehl.

I know I've said this ad nauseum on here, but he is my cousin. I would go ape poo if he got drafted to the Panthers and I am going to blow up his cell phone on draft day. I honestly don't think he'll be there past the Niners 5th round though, and doubt we'd take him before that. :(

And before it came out that him and another guy tested positive for pot today, I really liked Christian Ballard, DE, Iowa.

Now I really would like to see us pickup Chimdi Chekwa, CB from Ohio State. Dude is fast, has good height, and can tackle. I think he may be a projected 3rd-4th rounder, but if we took him with our compensatory 3rd I'd be pretty pumped. Plus we've done OK with Ohio State CB's in the past.:)

BTW, love the thread. I love reading up on guys that other huddlers like. After the first couple rounds I know next to nothing about most of the guys, especially if they are from smaller schools or play in divisions I don't get to see much here on the west coast.

Jerrell Powe, DT, Ole Miss. I've seen a lot of mocks having him a lot lower than I think he should go. I like him better than Ellis, but not by much. Guy is a monster and seems to have a better base than Ellis. As a side benefit, the chemistry of putting him beside Hardy might make the both of them a little bit better.

I didn't know that, actually. I think it's possible we'd take a look at him in the 5th, but yeah, the 49ers are going to be a definite possibility. I just think with Proehl on the coaching staff he could really stand a good chance of developing into a similar type of player for us.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
