Smitty to Chargers rumors heating up

Recommended Posts

I don't think Floyd is under contract yet in SD and he's 29, so he's only a few years younger than Smith.

Now, VJ, I could do that, and don't be surprised if it happens. Like someone said about Marshall being traded for hardly anything, it can happen. VJ already proved to SD that he'll sit. We just happen to have some cash to sign a guy like VJ long term also.

So, I'd be cool with trading Smith and a 2nd for VJ. I'd like to keep the 1st obviously.

It would be nice to have our new QB throwing to someone like VJ while Gettis/LeFell get more experience.

Hopefully Vincent Jackson

We really aren't back with the Vincent Jackson pipe dream again are we?

Dude is 1 positive test away from a 1 year suspension. No one in their right mind gives this guy more than league minimum.

He wants top 10 money. No thanks.

The Panthers FO did themselves a favor by giving Smith a chance. He isn't my favorite player for no reason. He has been an absolute monster for us. And I can't believe people are still ok with him leaving if it wasn't for Smith we would have had a lot more seasons like we had last season. He has carried us season after season and now he is getting old just like every player and we still have not been able to put a suitable supporting cast around him. I'd be pretty pissed off if I was Steve Smith too.

I would be ok with him going to the Chargers because that is what he deserves he deserves to have a franchise qb throw him the ball. If he would have played with a top 10 qb his entire career he would easily be in the HOF.

I don't want Smitty to leave, I dread it. But if he does leave I don't want him to win a Super Bowl. Any year he wins a Super Bowl after he leaves, is a year we DIDN'T win the Super Bowl.

Sounds like he just wants to go to his home town.

I say tough luck until the Panthers find someone to replace him. He shouldn't have re-signed to a contract extension if he didn't want to play it out.

Can we ever get f*cking players to retire here? Jeez this is pure bullsh*t

Man, I'm not trying to be insulting, but this is 2011. It's a business and players move on for a variety of reasons.

The modern NFL doesn't foster an environment where players, unless they are both superb on and off the field, are likely stay with one team throughout a longer than average career. This is, in my view, especially the case when it comes to skill positions.

For the record, Muhsin Muhammad is still our all time leading WR in total yards, and he came back to retire here.

Did everyone forget JACKSON wants out of SD? I don't care if the guy is in his prime. He isn't happy there.

Other than rumor as Smitty publically say he wanted out, that he didn't want to be around Cam? or Clausen? Too many well, someone said, his wife's sisters husband said Smitty wanted out, his home on the market...blah blah blah.

Personally I hope he stays. He is no closer to the Super Bowl with the SD Chokers than he is with the Panthers.

All this said.... IF we were to trade him to SD for VJ... I would say straight up. I definitely don't think we should give him away. If we don't get a good offer than I have no doubt he will suit up and play with JC or Newton.

    • You don’t even need 1b because Tepper is the only one foolish enough to wheel that deal.    Player wise? Jake’s elbow. JR and Pep getting sideways, no Carruth, Cam’s shoulder, Luke’s concussions, it would be a long list of stuff. You can take it down to certain plays in games. Fox chasing 2 point conversions in the SB would be on my list. RMJr slipping at the end of that same game was not helpful.
    • Ultimately this just amounts to heavy revisionist history. I mean you aren't talking to someone that just popped out the womb a week ago. I was here all throughout the predraft process. The overwhelming majority of the fanbase felt like this was a fine situation and the best situation for a rookie QB to go to compared to Houston for example. The hype for Young and our "rockstar" staff was off the charts. No one could dare speak cautious skepticism of his abilities or they would be neg repped into oblivion. Only after he had one of statistical worst rookie seasons of the last 25 years did we get this narrative now that his rookie season actually shouldn't count. Complete malarkey if you ask me.
    • On the field? Since I guess it qualifies as multiple instances it might not count, but have the damn refs throw some flags on illegal hits to Cam's head in SB50. If that doesn't count, 1A. Cotchery caught it 1B. Kasey keeps that kickoff inbounds. Off the field? 1A. Team is sold to anyone but Tepper 1B. We have the patience not to mortgage the franchise on that Bryce trade. Stroudwpuldve been the better pick but he's not worth it either.
