Rumor about our DTs

Recommended Posts

now im not very knowledgable on the subject, just heard through the grapevine that since we got the DTs Rivera wanted- we would now officially be moving to the 3-4 and putting E.Brown as an OLB.. get his hand out of the dirt and let him play to his strengths..

just what i heard- what do you think?

CJ - Fua - McClain

T.Davis - Conner - Beason - E.Brown

Fixed it for you. Sounds like a good idea.

why do people think it's a good idea to go 3-4? our entire defense is built around the 4-3. our defense is fine. we've got a d-line with potential, a solid secondary, and a dominant linebackers corp.

changing would set us back a year or two. I'd rather put the time and money into improving our offense than worrying about finding new players that fit the 3-4.

The assumptions people make from (random sources) aka not cited is ridiculous. In his 1st PC Rivera said WE WILL BE A 4-3 DEFENSE, though we would add elements of the 3-4 to mix up our looks.

No idea how a statement from the horses mouth gets twisted so much, so quickly. We got the DT's to fill our 2nd biggest need, it wasn't so we could remake the defense.

Not a chance. Neither our LB corps nor our DL is stocked with 3-4 players. Remember what happened to Beason and the start of the 2009 season without solid DTs in front of him (and him somewhat complaining about it)? Not a 3-4 MLB. Remember Davis being only above-average as a Sam linebacker but fluorishing as a Will? Not a 3-4 OLB. Remember Brayton sucking in Oakland as a 3-4 DE (noted that he sucked last year too)? Not a 3-4 DE.

On top of that, the pass rushing skills that Johnson and Hardy would be completely wasted as 2-gap ends in a base 3-4 scheme. It'll be used as a change-up, but not a base.

There are probably only a couple of players on our roster that would allow us to switch to a 3/4 base D.

The front 7 of a 3/4 D are getting very very hard to find, starting with the NT, and both 5 tech DE's. We have none of those on the roster.

    • Watching games this year again and Bryce missed a wide open XL many times and some of them were in the endzone. I get the kid has mental lapses and hasn't broke out yet, but this is year three on a rookie deal! Cutting bait now is too early. If he hasn't gained anymore trust from his QB, posted any highlights, little production, or outright gets beat out then we can talk movement.
    • Samesies   I truly may just cash completely out of Panther football if we give him a long term deal that isnt necessary.  I have watched NFL for 50 years now and I can without a shadow of a doubt say you cannot win consistently with BY.  Way too many limitations to deal with.   I may come back around in 3 years when the inevitable happens and all parties are either cut and/or fired.  Giving him a deal before this season so you hopefully can get him cheaper in case he "blows up" or if you truly believe that he will has to be the most moronic decision a gm can make when the evidence is laid before you with different players
    • This is the one! I was at that game and all KB had to do was lay down on the corner after the pick or make an obvious tag while he was down. He had already ran a lazy route. Then if Cam would've just walked to the sideline like most elite QBs instead of trying to make the tackle.  A lot of people bring up the TJ Watt hit, but he just reaggravated a bunch of scar tissue from that play. And every Cam hater said that the running did him in and it was a dive tackle attempt on an interception that initially began the shoulder deterioration. He still went to New England later and would've got them in the playoffs had their A team not sat out the covid year. We quit on him too early. But hey how good was Teddy? Am I right?
