Greg Cosell talks about Clausen

A lot of interest in Clausen: Limited arm talent, small in the pocket, poor throwing mechanics, needs functional space in pocket to deliver.

QB w/limited passing skill sets need lot of team (run game, defense, sp teams) to have any success. He didn't have that.

Would help to have some context to know what he means by "a lot of interest" (guessing he means him personally; pretty sure he's not talking trade).

See, what I find weird about that is...

Didn't Gruden say (along with 99% of analysts) that Jimmy Clausen had the best mechanics of anyone in the draft last year? Their knocks on him were about his character... not his arm.

This is kinda my problem with everyone piling on as well.

Most of the "tv scouts" had him rated much higher than he went, and almost everyone thought that he would be at worst a good starter in the league.

I still can't figure out what happened.

and a lot of people have talked about how comical the Gruden "QB sessions" are b/c he is far from a QB guru.

Gotta always remember that lots of "expert analysts" have their reasons to endorse or knock players.....and a lot have no clue what they are even talking about.

I want to see what he can do with a real staff.

still think if you want to see what Clausen has to offer he has to have a change in a WCO. His skill set just makes him a doormat in the offense's Carolina is running.

he won't see the field much and he shouldn't see it if the only point of it is to help drive up his stock.

best and most realistic chance for us to get the most value is some desperate team (of which there are a few) looking for a QB who thinks/hopes that he has a lot more potential than last year would cause you to believe.

the more time he sits on the bench, regardless of coaching, the less valuable he becomes.

i just want to see what some other team is interested in offering up for him.

not sure he's going to get to show anything here this or any year he's in carolina.

Has Cam now been elevated to Superhuman that has a built in Morphine drip that will allow him to never feel pain, therefore he will never be injured! Awesome! Take that Jamarcus Russell!

be lucky to get a 5th or 6th rounder for Clausen.

I would imagine if he is as horrible as some report he was in practice last year this upcoming camp......kid might just not make the cut.

    • Umm yeah. When did he get it done at the right time? I seem to remember a 4-6 finish and needing Atlanta to win our way into the playoffs but whatever.
    • I mean....no lies detected. See above. We have traded a fortune to draft a guy #1 overall that people have lowered standards for to the point that not playing like Jimmy Clausen and looking like a poor man's Kyle Allen occasionally is worthy of a contract extension making him one of the highest paid QB's in the league. That is cope on steroids.
    • summary: "let's talk about your draft, what did you think about Freeling" Dan:   guys with a huge upside, can come in and compete to start.  High ceiling "he does what for your offense?" Dan:   it's hard to find left tackles, guys that big and athletic.  We have Icky coming off an injury, we signed Walker, I believe your offensive line can never be too strong.  If we're going to win the game, it's gotta be up front on both sides of the ball, so we make a point of emphasis on making both sides of the front as strong as possible. "how many mocks did you see Monro falling to you." Not many times, left tackles are gonna go a lot earlier than when we took him.  We want to add the best player, in free agency or the draft"  that's our philosophy, to get the best players possible. "Hunter and Brazzell." Dan:  we followed the board.  Lee we felt very highly of him , super strong.  Brazzel so flexible and loose, can open the verticle.  Will Lee we held in high regard. "you take a look at your receiver room, Coker, my goodness, your offensive rookie of the year in Tet.  Lost Rico, but there is Jonathan Brooks. " Brooks coming off two knee injuries, he worked his way back, looking great, fully healthy, will help in pass and run game.  Icky, not sure when he's coming back but we're excited about both "plan on extending Bryce" we'll keep talking, will keep internally.  We believe in him, has such a great grasp of Canales and offense, has improved every year. "he's clearly come back from the benching, the arrow is trending up, where does he feel" Bryce knows where we stand with him, when and if a deal gets done, he knows we feel great with him, we'll get something done at the right time. "if this a prove it situation?" everyone in the building has to prove it, has to earn it. Tmac was everything we wanted, his work ethic, he's so big and talented, but he puts the work in, and is a great teammate. "your level of expectation, the building's level of expectation for 2026 "our goal is to win the division every year, we know we have to earn it.  we have to put the work in every day, proving it on the practice field, and our  guys know that." "schedule" we haven't opened at home in 2 or 3 years.  We love prime time games, hope we get some "
