The Kalil Wall

Gross is getting older and Otah gets hurt alot like you said. Getting a guy like Kalil would allow Otah to move inside when healthy and might preserve him a little more.

i know Kalil is a hot name, BUT if Smith is gone and he's NOT replaced, you HAVE to get a reciever like an Alshon Jeffery or Justin Blackmon because if they go into next year and they lose a lot of games (like 12 or more) with LaFell and Gettis as your one and two WR then either you get a new QB (like Luck) or you finally get a WR for a Cam Newton to throw too. Gross maybe getting older, but he's not so old he cant play for the next 3 or more years. Otah is injury prone, but i rather not use a high pick on a guy who will be playing right tackle. Otah is injury prone true, but if healthy, he's as good as they come. i think (if Smith is gone and not replaced) then they need to draft a true go to WR.

IIRC, Gross was originally a RT, and played better on that side.

Gross played on the right side in 2003 when Steussie was still holding down (getting illegal motion and personal foul calls).

He played RT again in 2007 when Wharton played Left (and was terrible)

Gross is better suited to play LT. He doesn't really have the mauling personality or body type to be as good on the other side.

He also did not play better on that side so I have no idea what you're talking about.

I'd like to pick up kalil, and put him in at RG until Otah goes down, then scoot him over to RT where he would stay until he is ready to play LT when Gross' prodution falls off.

But, if we lose smith, we will definately need a receiver in the first round next year, and pick up a lineman in the second.

You don't take a franchise OT and play him inside, IF he can play inside to begin with.

I agree with fiz.

Gross was drafted to play LT for the Panthers.

The writers predicted him to be nother more than a right tackle due to his lack of athletic ability. He only played right tackle his rookie season, and the 2nd time due to injury.

He was never better at right tackle. Typically your right tackle is a mauler like Otah.

Gross is a good LT. It always amuses me to see people still try to say that he was a reach/bust due to where he was drafted, and try to insist he is better at RT. Nothing supports that opinion.

Some say gross has over achieved. That may be, but id rather have a consistent over achiever at LT than someone who is inconsistent.

I thank Peppers for Gross being the player that he is.

Gross is a LT, he's been way better at LT than RT.

I'd be all for getting the younger Kalil next year if Otah's knees remain a problem. If Otah can get through this season healthy, I'd argue there will be more pressing needs in next year's draft.

Agree with Jeffrey or Blackmon if they're available and good value when we pick. Same argument that I made for AJ Green this year, being able to slide Smitty inside and Gettis/Lafell rotating the #2 spot with a new rookie #1-caliber WR would make for a good, smooth transition of the WR corps.

If Hardy doesn't make any progress, Coples or whatever DE is good value when we pick could be the route to take. Maybe even DT with our 1st round pick if that position turns out not to have been taken care of by then.

Otah for as brutal a player as he is...he sure is a whimp when it comes to pain. I don't care how awesome he is, if he is sitting on the bench half his career he isn't worth anything to us.

Wait... we're discussing NEXT year's Draft already? You have got to be kidding me.

BFD

The Cam Newton Threads are about worn out.

The Beason beating Frye Thread is dead.

There aren't any mini camps going on.

No trades or Free Agents to pick up and we have talked about that subject till we are blue in the face.

Got another suggestions?

Here is one for you... Don't wanna talk about it..... DON'T POST!!!!

Wow.... what a concept. Don't post if you don't have anything remotely addressing the topic.

If Otah does stay down I'm not opposed to taking Kalil at all, he's a bit bigger than Ryan and should shore up the position for years, maybe even kick Gross to RT as he ages.

this was what i was thinking. put lil/big Kalil at LT and boot Gross to RT.
