For Matt Moore: Bad News and Good News

Mr. Scot

While the Clasuen pick isnearly a bust, I don't see how a lame duck coach made drafting Clausen bad. If you feel you have a very good - potential franchise QB ( which they thought they did) you draft him regardless, because you believe he can handle whatever offence you throw at him.

Clausen didn't/doesn't possess a specific skill set that would only suit him for one offence.

I was under the impression that the QB Controvercy was over and done with when we took Mr Señor Cam Newton with the #1 pick... The depth situation will work itself out. We now have an Amazing front office and I have faith that we will keep who we need to keep and dump who we dont need.

Front Office and Coaching staff are not the same thing.

Personally I'd like to keep Matt around but that's mainly for selfish reasons, I'm a big fan of Matt's. I like the aggressive style he plays and the ability to move the ball. If he stays and the Panthers are holding him back from achieving greatness, then let him go. I wish you the best Mr. Moore. :seeya:

I'd definitely like to see what he can do coached by someone other than Rip Scherer.

For what it's worth, our old buddy Meat said Fox hated Moore and believed he might have deliberately put him in a position to fail.

If you want more info on that front, you'll have to ask Meat.

meat wasn't the only one around the team that said things like that. what was said to the media was quite a bit different than what was being said in private. it wasn't coming from any old joe on the street either. it was coming from guys like zod and meat who have/had a lot of access to players and i remember dan morgan (when he posted in here) had some things that was told to him by people on the team that weren't all that glowing concerning moore.

wtb ability to see who puts tags on threads :P

Morgan did have some weird things to say about Moore, but I thought he was saying that before Moore took over in 2009. I could be wrong, but I thought that he was saying that Moore didn't have a good grasp of the playbook etc so that is why we shouldn't abandon Jake.

The article describes Scott Turner's path to his current position as Panthers offensive QC. What's significant about that? Turner's job at Oregon State involved working with the offense, and specifically with the starting QB for Oregon State that season, a young fellow by the name of Matt Moore.

What does the OQC have to do with teaching / choosing a QB?

Plz Mr. Scott enlighten me, cause I'm not drawing how the QC assistant is going to the 'mat' for Matt More and get him that starting job back.

:cam: <-- Starter, fo realz..

i think it was more pointing out that if they thought moore was part of their plans in the slightest degree they would have mentioned the connection. they usually love pointing out any connections and this was kind of an obvious one to point out.

more just reading between the lines based on writing/reporting behavior.

The criticism that came from Dan Morgan was that he didn't know the playbook. As I recall, Gross and Hoover both said just the opposite.

Meat's the only one I remember saying that Fox personally disliked Moore.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
