Six years, 75 million for a guy who's had one good year in a QB friendly system? :sosp:

Oh, hell no :nonod:

That's what I call the "Jamarcus Russel scenario." He knows it was a fluke, he knows he is going to fizzle in the long run, and he wants to get as much money as he can before he is exposed and spends the rest of his career backing up somone for $1 million per year.

I think he's good, but that's an awful lot of money for a guy who hasn't even made the playoffs yet. 1 good season statisically doesn't warrant that kind of money.

I agree that is too much money, but you cant just blow him off because of the system he had a good year in. He looked good. Form, precision passing, reading the defense. None of that has to do with the system.

I just do not want to take the Cassell risk. He could be great, he could be awful in a new system. Gantt's blog post on Going reminded me of when Goings stepped in as the backup and had a nice season with several 100 yard games. Nobody was stepping up to offer him a 3 year/$25 million. The Cassell situation doesn't seem that much different to me, besides the fact that he is a QB.

disagree w/ that one. BB even said he gave up and scrambled too much when option 1 wasn't open. He struggled reading defenses and making decisions when asked to do something other than look to throw 5 yards or shorter downfield. His accuracy was also off on all this throws except for 10 yards or shorter.

Cassell can't play in Fox's offense this year as well as Jake. Our offense doesn't matchup well w/ Cassell's strength's and weaknesses and Fox offense will not change. It would make no sense. Offensively we are fine. We need a defense. The offense put up the points. We need some D and some better schemes. Cassell for Peppers is laughable imo. Jake will give you 2-3 bad Jake games a year....we are just overracting b/c one of those was our last game of the season. You really think Cassell would lead us to a better year offensively than what Jake did? No way. No other QB imo will get as much out of Smitty as Jake, imo.

How does this not make sense? New England runs a 3-4 a lot, which is what Peppers wants. And how do you figure that Cassell can't play in Fox's offense? First, its not Fox's offense, its Davidson's. Fox knows nothing about offense, and Davidson pretty much runs that show. Davidson came from Cleveland, where Romeo Crennal, who came from New England, was the coach. This year with Cassell NE ran mostly short completions to wideouts and tightends...sound familiar??? He rarely took deep shots, unlike Brady, and focused and just moving the ball slowly down the field. Again...sound familiar??? The NE offense under Cassell was ran much differently then under Brady. What Cassell did is very similar to what the Panthers do.

I agree wholeheartedly (but I usually agree with you..no surprise. :)).

You will probably lose the playaction game with Cassel. If you watched their games, you would see that pretty much, when Cassel was under center, it was a run. He's not a strong PA guy, he's a shotgun guy. Not saying he couldn't get better at PA/under center, but if a guy isn't a better option, then there's no reason to do this.

    • Carolina Way is gone, it went out the window with the Belichick hiring. They'll hire the best coach they can, ignoring everything else if possible.    Athletic reports that the school's top two targets are Tommy Lloyd and Billy Donovan. They don't care the buyout for a coach either, they and the boosters are willing to spend and will be going outside of the coaching family tree 100%.
    • I don't think it's a homer though when I really feel this team can beat anyone.  The points that can be scored in bunches when the big three are on has high potential.  Moose has effort for days and IMO is the heart of the team.  And didn't see Miles becoming the team "vet" in the starting lineup just roleplaying lol.   We have to limit the turnovers though (Brandon Miller I'm looking at you bud, you are a bad ball handler) and some little things.   Colby off the bench is a cheat code and him and Kaulk have a nice little game going with the picks.    Sion playing every game and just getting better each game.  He has grit.  Grant and Green also grit.  We need replace Tillman with PJ Hall though.  Tillman looks like someone that shouldn't be on an NBA court, or at least with this team, he's just too slow for this tempo.   Even McNeely looked decent tonight and can drive.   If Kaulk and Moose could even be like 30% 3pt shooters man....
