FALSE. Jake Delhomme, at one time was a good QB. He had some years were he was good enough to win some games. I won't say he was great, but he was, again--at one time, a good QB.

he was?? Good qbs are somewhat consistent and dont throw games away on a regular basis. Jake was either hot and hitting everything or cold and hitting nothing, no in between.

So what you are telling me is, you started watching the Panthers play around 2008 ...

I think you might be right. I can also see Chud wanting to bring in a guy like Randy Moss. He is the type of WR he likes.. one who can get a jump ball. The problem is motivating Randy.. seems like the Panthers have been willing to take risks with players lately though.

I think Moss is done. I do not see anyone touching him after last season. We have enough baggage. Smith should be traded. I admire loyalty, and some of you have it for Smith. However, you have to look forward and not back. WHen this team is ready to contend, SS will be 34 and his contract will have expired. He will go to another team as an UFA or retire. We would have spent $15 million keeping developing youth off the field, and possibly ruined another QB.

Smith will go to Chicago or San Deigo--guessing.

Gettis and Lafell will be better. If Edwards and Pliares contribute in the slot, we could be decent to good at WR. If we upgrade the TE spot (how we use the TE, not the personnel so much) and throw to the backs more, we could find that we are good at WR this season. Sure a veteran would be nice for right now, but we really do not know what we have.

The more I think about it, Smith NEEDS to be gone. He has done a lot for the Panthers, time for him to move on. We need to get something for him, because after this year I just don't see a situation that will keep him here.

Hes getting old, wants to win a superbowl, and we are rebuilding. We don't really need him, although it would be nice to have him around.

But like others have said, it only makes sense to trade him now. It is the smart thing to do, and bring in vet WR that can make some plays. But we need to focus our efforts on Gettis, LaFell, Edwards, and Pilares. These guys also need a good vet WR to look up to and learn from, and although I think Smitty could do that, it would only be wasting time because he should be gone next year.

Trade him! 2nd rounder would be awesome, but at least get a 3rd.

You guys talking about trading Smitty are letting Mike Florio and Adam Schefter fug up your head IMO.

Smitty most likely doesn't even want to be part of this team. He wants to be traded. Most likely his preference but also understands the lockout and Carolina not being able to deal him pre draft hurt his chances for the time being.

Nothing about Smitty suggests he meshs well with a team rebuilding......however many fans try to distort who Smitty is to find a way to imagine he would.

What meshes is that if he goes we have no downfield threat => no running game => no offense. We need an offense so that our players can KNOW what it's like to score. Thats pretty crucial to rebuilding and learning. If we replace him with an equal value then it might not be such a problem, but some kid comin on here and referring to him as if he's done is just foolish.

Take some Smitty bashing lessons from CRA and least have a reason behind youre argument other than "he's old and we dont really need him". Instead it comes off sounding like . . "EHHH! I dont know a frikking thing about football and I would love to share this with thousands of strangers".

That may be the case, but I just feel like there simply hasn't been an offseason this year and Smitty's only window to speak to the organization about anything was after a VERY frustrating 2-14 season and he may have backed off his stance since then. I guess we'll know for sure where his head is at in the next couple of weeks.

    • I mean, if Moore really wants out, then it would behoove the Bears to make it happen sooner than later. X is a lot younger and cheaper, and may be a better fit for Johnson's musings than a disgruntled, unnecessary, overpaid vet. If they can dump his salary and maybe get a fourth or so in return, it may be worth it to them. As for development, I'm not concerned. You're talking about a seeming bust, a day three guy and a UDFA. They are developing relative to their ceilings. I doubt any of them will ever command the coverage, money, or the respect that Moore has acquired. He's a tier above them. Yes, even X.
    • IMO, if Ceedee plays against us, the game probably goes the other way. Same with Tyreek Hill and the Dolphins. Our team just isn't designed to beat teams with two high level receivers like that. But when you look at the league, how many teams really have two guys of that caliber?  There's nothing wrong with defensive adjustments, but sometimes I think a lot of fans want Evero to call a different play like a game on madden, and defensive football just isn't like that. That said, I thought we did a much better job this season against the Cowboys of flipping Jaycee and at least making them work for it, opposed to last season when they literally just lined CeeDee up on the other side of the field every single snap.  For us to just straight up switch to consistent man coverage, or a different zone, or whatever, we likely would consistently need different personnel on the field. Doing it a few times a game is a gamble and can work, but if we consistently run man coverage against the Cowboys, eventually a RB is going to beat a linebacker, or something of that nature with our personnel. Part of the reason Evero likes this scheme is that, while we have our defaults and presets, what we do is very multiple, and you can do a lot of different things pre and post snap. We are a challenging defense to read. But as you said, if guys are getting beat, it doesn't really matter what you call.
