Anderson wants to remain a Panther

Recommended Posts

Here is the reality of the situation:

Anderson feels that his best chance of getting a good deal (and starting) is here. He is not a big name around the league. Beason playing WLB caused a lot of traffic on the strong side, giving him a lot of opportunities.

I want him on the team, but not necessarily as an everydown player on the strong side. I think Dan Connor will find the field more (Rivera likes him), and if TD is ready to go, Anderson could find himself at SLB on passing downs, WLB in relief of Davis. Who knows, but it is a good problem to have if you do not pay too much. I would think an average of $3-4 million per year on a four year deal is about what he is worth.

Triple Digit tackles, 19 QB disruptions and 61 stops. BTW those 61 stops were the most for an 4-3 OLB last season. Took 96 percent of all the defenses snaps, on passing downs was primarily featured as a blitzer (which he does really well) Not very good when dropping back into coverage, so a bit of a weakness there as he's a 2 down guy really unless you blitz him on 3rd downs or he improves his coverage and zone skills.

He needs to be resigned, for nothing crazy of course but he is worth at least average pay if not a bit more. Plus Thomas Davis is a ? at this point. Davis should be the one we spend cheap on coming off a double injury, there is a need for the extra insurance linebacker.

Davis will get more money from the Panthers than he would from any other team. That being said, he'll still be relatively cheap.

What a great...a great....what a GREAT response to a post that was clear referring to one of the best group of linebackers in the league!

Thomas Davis, Jon Beason, and Na'll Diggs were one of the best groups of linebackers in the league.

James Anderson, Dan Connor, and an out of position Beason, not so much. I know fans like to prove a linebacker's value by pointing out the numbers of tackles they make, but keep in mind that the Panthers DTs didn't exactly swallow opposing team's RBs up and the linebackers were almost always left to clean the play up.

    • Pretty sure that a QB contract payday is all the competition any QB in this league needs, I don't think a competent backup is going to make them play any harder when the current situation wouldn't warrant the contract extension yet anyways. Your opening point in this post is also the problem, "Bryce has shown signs of improving", but that's still all he's shown, and he's only showing that because of just how bad he was to start his career. If he played like last season from the beginning and never improved one bit, then I actually think more fans would be ready to move on from him, which is what's weird.  It's like going from one of the biggest draft busts of all time into the 25th best QB in the league over 3 years means he deserves a long term $40+ million a year contract extension. Improvement shouldn't be the goal when the result of said improvement is still bottom of the league levels.
    • Yeah, but we've seen him do it. Just not often. I think that's the reason for the taller WRs. Would likely be a problem finding someone like Jimmy Horn in the mess.
    • And the Rams, Seattle, Patriots, Green Bay, Jaguars and the Bills who all made the playoffs and in case you forgot, Seattle and the Patriots played in the SB. By any measure, that's pretty brutal.
