Clayton says he beieves Peppers is not going anywhere

Recommended Posts

The only way we should keep Peppers is if he wants to be here. If he comes out and has another 2007 season, then we have lost all of our investment in him. We will end up having to let him walk without getting anything in return. I know we can't get two first rounders for him, but we have to be able to pick up SOMETHING decent. Maybe a 1st and 2nd in a trade or something. I just think if we keep him 1 year, he's still going to have it in his mind that he wants to leave, and will not be a 10+ sack guy.

I wonder if he tries to make Carolina put in a stipulation on him signing the Tender. Like if he gets 14 sacks and 50 tackles we can't re franchise him next season.

At least it would demand production from him and he couldn't just slack ass the whole season like 07. The guy isn't going to hold out and anyone that would be pissed at getting paid 120% of 17 million the year after they got paid 17 million can go cry to someone else.

The Panther CAN'T shop around UNTIL he signs his tender. League Rules (and has been stated in a Darin or Steve article). Peppers and his agent can explore with other teams but the Panther's can't do a thing because he hasn't signed his tender.

this can only work in our favor really... as I see it.

Peppers wants to get out, and had a season that was pretty good last season and still noones come knock'n down his door.

If he REALLY wants out.. he'll play to his potential (not the potential he feels he's reached) and play lights out for US next season, and then be more marketable a season later.

This can also work in our favor as in, if he actually likes the Defensive staff changes, and ends up tapping said "untapped" potential somehow... and he ends up stay'n and make'n a team friendly deal (being you know.. it's not about the money... LOL)

Ok, yeah, that's a lil out there, that last one.

I dunno.. LOL

Maybe I'm just happy it's Friday.

Franchise his ass again next year. Panthers can't let an asset like that just walk away for nothing

I'd agree (i.e. the Walter Jones treatment). Although you do have to keep in mind that DE salaries being what they are, that could get expensive.

I'm not as convinced as Clayton that he won't get traded, but it is a legit possibility.

I seriously doubt he'd dog it, but I do wonder if he'd "retire" (ala Deion).

If a trade happens, it'll happen on draft day, IMHO. If not, thanks for the huge cap hit, Pep!!

why are you thanking Pep?

this is the doing of the FO. We fvcked up. We are gonna pay.

welcome to mediocrity boys and girls.

In consideration of the short life of a running back we have finally got a couple bad-asses in our stable and subsequently shot ourselves in the foot wasting a year for both of them.

dog it or not. the guy wants out. It's a mental state for him. we have buried this franchise underneath the greed associated with a 29 year old guy with "potential" at another position.

The Panthers FO should be drug out into the street and shot.

That's an interesting theory carpanfan. I wouldn't mind adding a stipulation like that, but if he thinks he's got so much wasted potential and can get 14 without trying, I would tell him if he breaks the sack record this year, he's free to walk next year.

Works for everyone that way. We get one last good year out of him, along with proof that the SOB never gave it his all for this team. He gets to showcase his talents and go wherever he wants to after that.

It is interesting that people believe that Hurney is posturing by saying we want Peppers back to drive up the price but no one thinks that peppers is posturing to drive up the price as well.

Other than a few statements made before we franchised him, has he ever said he was that unhappy here? Do the players think that he is that unhappy?

I can understand him saying that he wants to play in a 3-4 where he thinks he can get big numbers without working as hard and not being double teamed as much. And I honestly think that is why he is saying it. He see what he believes are less talented guys putting up big numbers.

Now he is seeing that perhaps he isn't as great as he thinks he is or universally desired by other teams. Maybe he is having a reality check after believing all the hype about himself.

Sure he might get traded still but it probably won't be to a team he wants to play for. And unless Hurney wants to trade him enough in order to accept less than 2 1sts, he may not get any offers. It will be interesting to see what happens. Hard to say at this point.
