So lets say Goodson fumbles a couple times tomorrow night...

Still want to keep him? He is a dynamic player for sure, but at what cost?

Yes but Sutton jumps him on the depth chart.

With young QBs.....the mistakes made need to be limited b/c the QB will be making plenty.

in regards to the recent best 3rd QB hype......most teams aren't trying to built uber backfields. They are more concerned w/ having the best 3rd and 4th WR in the league.

Goodson didn't fumble that much late last year when he was starting/getting a lotta touches. I'll chalk up last game and up to this game to early season jitters. If he's fumbling a bunch in the regular season, minimize his touches, but don't get rid of him. He's a later round pick and probably wouldn't fetch much in a trade. Keep him at least til the end of his rookie contract and if he's STILL fumbling after that, cut him loose.

Goodson fumbled three times in the last two games last year. Six on the season putting him in the top 10 of all NFL players for fumbles...and he didn't even play the entire season, so yeah I would say its a problem. Compare that to D-Will who's only had 6 fumbles his entire CAREER. The most fumbles Adrian Peterson (who is widely considered the most fumble prone man in America) has ever had in a season is 9, and AP touches the ball way more than Goody.

We know that Goody isn't on the level of Williams or AP but that makes his fumbles even more glaring. I don't want to get rid of him mainly because I don't like having talented players leave us and go light it up somewhere else. Keep working with it and hopefully he'll have a turn around, but at some point you have to evaluate the situation for what it is, is the chance of losing the ball on any given play worth a third string back/KR when we already have depth at RB and an emerging return corps?

..for several reasons tomorrow Goodson will get a chance to shine. I see him getting targeted quite a bit out of the backfield in the third quarter while we lapse into the west coast offense a bit giving Jimmy a chance to show off. Two tight end sets against zone blitz d (probably) will be a great situation for JC but a byproduct of that will be Goodson a cahnce to show what he can do blitz pickup and YAC-wise.

Goodson + Clausen + 3rd down also spells disaster (double edge sword).....Jimmy has trouble if he even thinks there is pressure. Goodson is a swinging gate if asked to pass protect.

I also don't believe Carolina is attempting to "show off" Clausen.

As a kickoff returner, the risk is much higher IMO. I know a fumble lost is a fumble lost, but on a kickoff, you're deep in the other team's territory, they likely just scored (hence the kickoff), and giving the ball back to them with that field position will lose the game for you, not just a possession.

You definitely do not cut him. He has too much upside and many backs have corrected fumbling problems. However, many backs have not corrected fumbling problems as well. It is definitely a major concern and I don't see how you can play him in a real game until this is corrected.

I ran the numbers earlier this year based on Goodson's amount of touches last year and the amount of fumbles per carries was staggering. If memory serves me correct, it was around 1 fumble for every 10 touches.

    • I think where they would be picked if redrafted before both classes have played enough football to really tell.  Baker literally looked like a washout with us after Cleveland gave up on him, then turned world beater with the Rams, got a prove it deal with the Bucs and has looked awesome ever since. Asking where Ward would’ve went had he went in ‘24 is just stupid.  I’m no GM, but I wouldn’t have taken Williams #1 either.  I would’ve taken Joe Milton way higher than he went.  I think Shadeur should’ve been a first round pick this year.  Point being, opinions are like buttholes, everybody has one.  It’s my opinion that Ward has that “something special.”  I get that feeling that he’ll be an even better pro than he was a collegiate QB because of whatever that quality is.  I think he’s gonna surprise a lot of people, especially being such an under appreciated first overall pick.
    • Where do we get our T-shirts and hats? Pretty sure this is the first championship ever in professional basketball or football in Charlotte!
    • Nice turnaround for Kon.  I’m still a little worried about his ability to create for himself and others, but it was SL.  Come regular season, he will playing a much different role and shots will be there for him.  He showed some reason for hope - and not just him, but the whole squad.  I suppose for the first time ever, we have drafted and acquired enough young talent that we actually not only competed for once, but won the whole thing in summer league.     Kon, Simpson, and Sims made all the difference.  Almost every year prior I felt we always struggled because we usually didn’t have a floor general/real PG to get us into offense.  This was such a breath of fresh air.  And look at us!  We finally are champions!😂
