Rivera should hit the brakes on picking QB

I know it's been reported that he wants to name a starter by early next week but neither Jimmy or Cam did enough to pull ahead of the other.Derek Anderson hasn't played enough nor was he brought into start.

At this point we need more film to determine who the starter should be.

What "we" needs more film?? The fans? He was never going to make his decision based on this preseason game. He has a pretty good idea of who he is going to start and tonight likely didn;t move the barometer very much

Clausen will get the start, or at least he should.

Is he lights out better than Cam? No, he isn't. However, he has been able to keep the ball moving and the offense rolling. The TOP when Cam left the game tonight was about 3-1 in favor of the Dolphins.

I think he should name Clausen the starter but keep a very open mind about the situation and wether JC is playing well enough.

At this point it really doesn't even matter who it is IMO... If that was any indication of how our season will be... We're in a bad way. Our D looked about as pooty as they come.

Here I was thinking that our D would carry us until our O gelled... Doesn't look so good right now.

This was a heavily slanted competition favoring Cam Newton..Jimmy would have had to led some 80 yard passing drives and Cam would have had to have made some turnovers for Jimmy to get a real shot. It's time for the team to completely get behind Cam and give him all the reps possible.

Consider that we're also keeping Cam on a short leash in terms of his running talents so teams can't start scouting him... it's a whole dimension of our offense we haven't started using yet.

Forget Cam running, they didn't even hand the ball off when Cam was in there. When Clausen was in I noticed they ran the poo out of the ball.

Cam would probably benefit more from a run game, but our Offensive Line wasn't exactly stellar.

    • I have been looking for a dropped pass list and all that comes up is QBs. And team stats. When I do receivers I get the passing stats for a handful that threw passes this year.    I wanted to be accurate but anyhow I was looking because thought I remembered reading where T Mac had more drops than XL this year.  One of you many smarter than me people here,I would appreciate it if you know how to pull that up, please do. Thank you.    And yeah I know that isn’t all there is to it I just thought it was interesting.  Of course what the hell is a drop lol.
    • I agree with this and I think it's worth mentioning too that Bryce is not consistent on his placement and especially velocity and that in large part is driven by his footwork. We all know XL doesn't have the best hands and I don't know that he can overcome that. Cam always had the heater that just hit your hands and sank into your grip, where Bryce has some that are harder thrown, some soft. Bryce stepping into a pass looks so much different than that hop throw thing he does. I think XL really needs to hit the jugs machine and start learning how to catch all these different touch passes. TMac and Coker don't have these issues. If XL doesn't get some work in he's going to be out of the league in the next couple of years.
    • I think most people like XL from a personal standpoint. I don't think he's stupid either. Although if we are being realistic he is lacking in football IQ at this point in time and it cannot be disputed that he has not taken working on his craft seriously at all times given the body of work on the field. It speaks for itself. I myself have defended him at times given the circumstances of our QB room. But he is now in his third year and 25 years old. We are not in a position as a franchise to go around babying anyone especially first round draft picks. He needs to take his position and his football career seriously or he is going to end up selling used cars somewhere. I hope he realizes this and takes an extended break from social media because that mess certainly isn't going to increase his net worth if he ends up out of the league. And these hanger on types will disappear quick too once that money dries up and it surely will eventually. We'll see how he responds.
