Here’s where the Panthers 53-man roster stands at the moment after five waiver wire moves. Obviously, the Panthers could be adding some free agents:

Wide receiver (6): Steve Smith, Legedu Naanee, Brandon LaFell, Armanti Edwards, Kealoha Pilares, Seyi Ajirotutu.

Tight end (3): Greg Olsen, Jeremy Shockey, Ben Hartsock.

Offensive line (8): Jordan Gross, Travelle Wharton, Ryan Kalil, Jeff Otah, Mackenzy Bernadeau, C.J. Davis, Lee Ziemba, Byron Bell.

DEFENSE:

Defensive end (5): Charles Johnson, Greg Hardy, Eric Norwood, George Selvie.

Defensive tackle (4): Terrell McClain, Sione Fua, Andre Neblett, Marcus Harrison.

Linebacker (8): Jon Beason, Thomas Davis, James Anderson, Dan Connor, Omar Gaither, Jordan Senn, Thomas Williams, Jason Williams.

Cornerback (4): Chris Gamble, Captain Munnerlyn, R.J. Stanford, Josh Thomas.

Safety (5): Sherrod Martin, Charles Godfrey, Jordan Pugh, Sean Considine, Stevie Brown.

Like most of you, I have multiple concerns about our roster, but man does the DE position look weak! Who is a complete DE other than Charles Johnson?

I want to say Greg Hardy too, but he has to be on the field more consistently before we really know what we have. The other 2 DEs are light-weight (250#) speed rushers.

Our backups & DL do not inspire confidence...I hope Harrison can be a dominant starter at DT. We saw the DL, in pre-season, get no push AND get pushed around; if something doesn't change it will be a long season.

Hey, change a couple names and it's the same roster as last year with the same problems:

1. Lack of quality DT

2. Lack of a #2 WR

3. Rookie QB

4. Very suspect CBs.....

Who says you can't get the same results as last year with some new faces? A new head coach and a different rookie QB on a team that essentially still has the same problems they had last season....

5-11 here we come...

Fox still has mind control over Hurney...give Hurney a break already!!! :nono:

Kidding, of course, you are correct. A new wrapper does not change the contents of a gift, nor do new players with same skill sets change the quality of a team.

I really hope that you are wrong & the rest of us who feel the same way. Problem is that even if Newton is the best thing since sliced bread he will still struggle as a rookie & how do you both bring a rookie in AND bring home a winning record? By surrounding him with an excellent OL, great skill positions & (probably most importantly) a lights out [hope Merriman didn't trademark that!] defense. We do not have a top notch D without a strong DL.

At this point, the talent on the roster is seriously lacking in all areas except the HBs, TE, OL & LBs; safety is pretty solid (kickers too, if we are going to pretend like they are football players).

Last year was a throw away year to save $, but then shouldn't this year be a 'rebuilding' year? I am not seeing where they are even 'developing' guys enough guys for an outstanding team next year. Status quo here we come...scratch that, only winning 2 games is very hard, so we will probably win between 4-7 (but losing record nonetheless).

I am the furthest thing there is from a basher or pessimist, but sadly a realist & pessimist sometimes look the same when the GM has not prepared the roster for success.

We need a "homerun" in the next few days..... A threesome of Tommie Harris, Alex Brown & trade for a #2 CB. I think a 5-11 record is our wheelhouse this year regardless, but that would guarantee one of the following:

WR: Alshon Jeffrey, Justin Blackmon

CB: Dre Kirkpatrick, Alfonso Dennard

DT: Jarrel Worthy, Brandon Thompson

As much as we need a WR like Jeffrey, I don't see how we can ignore a stud DL(DT or DE) in the first round.

Yeah, we need realistic expectations. I just hope we're trying to win this year as opposed to trying not to lose last year. I can support a young team that takes chances and looks like they're trying to win and get better.

    • I mean, I get why the media and some NFL and Carolina fans are saying that we don't have a real chance, but as many Huddlers should know, we won't know what we really have in this team until probably late September or early October at the earliest. And I'm not trying to be a homer, I'm just looking at things historically. Obviously I'm also looking at Bryce's "palatable" improvement the last half of last season (including being the catalyst for hanging with and nearly beating the Super Bowl participants), and the new additions that we've acquired overall. I'm also looking at the beginnings of a culture change--even if perceptibly subtle--to some degree indeed may take a foothold if things start falling the right way. But, overall, I'm still cognizant of the realization that things could just go south and that perhaps that Bryce could revert and flop, or that D & D (Dan and Dave) are not the answer, but I still am not ready to say "we're far away." Hell we could be close, albeit with growing pains, but even if we're on the course to bring legit in 2026, then guys like Ramsey would be welcome additions this season. That's just my take on it. I don't think we'll know that we're far away until some point in the season. If we can compete in the South...who knows?
    • You guys remember when the narrative on here was that Bryce would be chronically injured in the NFL due to his size and Anthony Richardson would be super durable due to his? You remember when the narrative was that Bryce was physically incapable of throwing a ball further than 20 yards in the NFL? You remember “I’ll stop complaining when he throws for more than 200 yards and looks like an NFL quarterback”? You remember when 60 sacks was his fault and not the offensive line, slow WRs, and terrible scheme? Pepperidge Farm remembers. It will always be something for some people. Whatever insanity they come up with will be quickly dropped to move on to the next thing. Bryce could have an MVP Super Bowl winning season and they would complain that we can’t run the tush push with him. It will always be something.
    • For the Panthers fans still low on Bryce and demanding that he be a top-10 QB this upcoming season: What stat(s) will you need to see? Not the vibe you want, but rather what does he need to be top-10 in specifically? Passing yards? Completion percentage? Win-loss record? PFF grades? EPA? CPOE? Asking because this was asked before and... well... it ended up that the folks down on him didn't care about the numbers as much as they cared that they just couldn't get passed his size regardless of how he performed. It would be nice to get a straight-forward answer to that without the usual deflection and redirecting.
