Are we abandoning the 4-3 already?? (conspiracy theory)

Why would you try to interject facts into Teeray hysteria?

The hysteria of saying it was just a conspiracy theory and saying it almost certainly is not true??

I realize this is doubtful. So is 90% of all conspiracy theories.

9/11 was an inside job!!!!! :D

Our defense was good last year. Overall defensive statistics take a beating when you are on the field @70% of the time every game. Offense not sustaining drives was more of an issue with the defense than the defense itself last season.

I believe we were top 10 in advanced statistics ratings

Our defense wasn't bad, and I agree being on the field a lot did hurt. But the first half of the year, pressure on passers was nearly nonexistent. It picked up somewhat as the year went on, especially once Charles Johnson caught fire, but it never became great. In the preseason, we led the league in sacks last year, but they disappeared in the regular season.

A 3-4 DE is considered a DT in a 4-3, so in essence, a 3-4 ran team actually carries more DT's on their roster than 4-3 defenses.

This is a really good point. We also probably wouldn't sign Charles Johnson to a huge contract to put him a system he doesn't really fit.

Wait who's side am I on??

WTF are we gonna do if Smitty gets hurt? We aren't looking all that different from last year. No legitimate, seasoned vet opposite of Smitty seems like the elephant in the room that just won't leave. I hope the coaches know something about Naane & Ajirotutu that the stats don't speak to. We appear, yet again, one Steve Smith away from disaster.

Brown would not play DE in a 3-4, OLB is his position in a 3-4.

We are going to run both, but I do not see the nose on our roster for a 3-4. Fua would be worse that a 4-3 1 technique.

We will run some 3-4 Sunday, so you are not far off. I also think we could be running a 3-4 as early as 2012. Who knows?

Is having zero DTs also normal for zone blitz attack?? I was under the impression they were even more important in that scheme.

Lots of teams carry four DTs but deactivate the fourth on game day (Fox did that with us more than once) so only three active DTs isn't that unusual, even on a 4-3 team. That's one reason why teams like having a Tyler Brayton type who, while they primarily play on the edge, is big enough to slide inside if needed.

    • This was the first time I’ve seen him play. Very impressive guy. Does he play well within structure as well? You can’t live on out of structure play in the NFL.
    • But they exist in that space precisely because they were the outliers with big arms and other elite traits(especially athletically). I would never look past a sub 6 foot QB with a similar profile to those guys. That's basically what I mean. My list of prospects is never going to auto delete based on stature. It's definitely a reason to take a more in depth look to make sure they are going to translate. Bryce fooled me with his playmaking ability. I thought it was going to translate well, ignored all his throwing mechanics issues and gave more credit to his abilities than the superstar team around him. I am not going to do that again.
    • I agree but the 1 and a half guys that have fit is a small hit percentage. I agree the other stuff matters more. If Murray wasn't a dud between the ears it would be 2 and not 1 in that category. It's deffinatly not as high as ability, tools and skills.  Yeah really weak arm is a huge red flag. Paired with poor footwork should be a hell no.
