Official Beason has torn Achilles. Out For Season

The article on PFT said that full ruptures usually don't require an MRI to tell because they're so obvious. Also said that the MRI could be a good sign that it's only a partial tear.

At any rate, he will be back. This is Beason we're talking about here; all this 'he's done' bullpoo needs to stop. He's coming back. I'd bet anything on it.

Most big tendons will just bunch up around the site so that is a valid point. Still they prob did one anyway.

It was Beason's call.

Training staff can only ask how he feels.

He knew the risks.

If anyone can get back, he can.

When you pay someone his kind of money it shouldn't be his call.

Beason is a beast, he'd play through just about anything, doesn't mean we should let him. Someone on that staff needs to be fired. This isn't an isolated incident. I obviously don't enough details to really back up the statement but that is how it looks from the outside.

How do you make the judgment without taking what Beason would say into account? Hard to say, don't have the answer for that either. Maybe X-rays? Not sure but like said before does this happen multiple times on each team, something tells me not as much.

Anyone who thinks this poses the slightest threat to his career needs to throw their medical books away. They're about 20 years out of date.

I couldn't agree more.

When are people going to realize that sports medicine, and normal medicine, is light years ahead of what it was.

There was a time when Tommy John surgery was considered a career-ender for pitchers... Stephen Strausberg came back in less than a year, throwing the same velocity.

Hopefully his rehab goes well.

I have to say though, this is probably the best season for this to happen in. This will give our other young linebackers a chance to really grow up. Not to mention Godfrey and Martin will likely be needed to step up and hopefully it helps them grow.

If anyone can recover from something like this, it will be Beason.

What? what are u talkin about he is done for the season, he is not comin back till next year regardless. Im speaking in terms of i hope Dan Connor comes in and plays well so he will be a hot commodity next year and we can get something for him (hopefully), its his last contract year, Connor is gone after this season. Realistically, if there was ever a time for this to happen its now, Beasons Achilles has been bothering him for the longest hopefully when he comes back it will be the healthiest he has ever been, next year when the team is further along and looking to make a serious playoff push. I wont him to be healthy for long term as much as possible.

He is talking about next year. With a partial tear it is easier to fully recover but its not gaurenteed 100% With a full tear your chances of fully recovering deminish drastically although it can still be done. In both scenarios as you pointed out his season is donezo.

A full tear is pretty much the worst injury you can get when you play a sport where you put that much torque on your ankles (only thing worse would be a broken Vertabrae).

---Can somebody call Greg Frye's Agent? I hear the Panthers cut him in the off season =)

this falls clearly on rivera, he knew Beason wasn't fully recovered from injury, but he let beason talk him into playing. it was a risk, and they both lost. Personally, I would have like managment to stick with their guns and not clear beason to play until they felt he had conditioned himself enough to get back on the field.
the coach doesn't clear him to play.

That's the training staff. You wouldn't use your best MLB if he was cleared to play? Would'nt want his leadership and passion on the field? Don't second guess it, the training staff cleared him to play. He played.

    • Having trouble finding all these articles saying the Raiders withheld information. Here’s the latest from Crosby’s surgeon: ElAttrache told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday morning that Crosby was "doing very well in the early part of his rehab and recovery from surgery to treat a significant meniscus tear and the related stress injury to the bone and cartilage in his knee. He is certainly on track in his planned program." "We truly respect the work of the Ravens' staff with Maxx regarding the contract physical exam. We also understand the challenge the staff faces when tasked to provide a future risk assessment based on an evaluation early in the recovery process," ElAttrache said. "This is especially challenging when dealing with an elite player like Maxx considering the level of commitment necessary for a team to obtain him. The timing of this assessment is unfortunate because the apparent risk will lessen as his recovery progresses and his return to performance over the next few months becomes clear."     So the Ravens excuse is the future risk assessment based on the physical, not that the Raiders withheld information. They found an excuse to save face publicly. They had the right to cancel the trade for no reason at all, but they’re trying to save face with the most acceptable reasoning they can find. I’ve heard and seen the Ravens getting dragged everywhere for this. You know what would be an easy way to put a stop to that if you’re the Ravens and the Raiders were actually the shady ones withholding information? Just come out and say that you were not given all the medical information. But they aren’t saying that. I guess they’re just taking the bullet for the Raiders just because?    Speculation indeed.
    • Two first round picks for a guy with very questionable knees who will be 29 this summer. Yes it is safe to say the Ravens got cold feet.
    • The salary cap is the reason we got Phillips and Lloyd
