Panthers Not Expected To Sign Donnie Avery

So... any Tuesday of the month I can show up at BOA and have just as much of a shot as a Donnie Avery?

Cool...

I'm 55 years old, 6'6" 260 lbs and in very good health. And I'd look a hell of a lot better running across the field with one of those giant flags than those fat boys doing it now...

I think I have seen you. Do you take your dog out for a walk with your shirt off and some short cut off jorts?? If so....nice.

couple reasons beyond the narrow-minded "hurney SUX!!!!" thoughts...

1) he just isn't as good as advertised and isn't an upgrade over what we have (despite the hate for naanee)

2) he would rather go play for a team that he would be getting more targets...like the titans. britt being out for the season means that there will be more balls to catch than here where it's a pretty crowded field of receivers.

Hurney took one look at his resume' and said "A legitimate number two Receiver? Screw that. You know how much I hate those. Besides, this guy has done way too much. Let's sign Sucky McSuckson, the UDFA the Browns just cut. He was a guy we really liked coming out of Eastern Kansas Tech A&M of Northern Kansas last year. I can't begin to imagine why he hasn't been signed to a multi year deal, but man are we lucky."

:iagree:

If we had signed him, I'd be all for it but I don't think it was a make or break decision. I like what we've seen from LaFell so far. Of all our "needs" WR has to be near the bottom. With Smitty, Olsen, Shockey, Stewart and Lafell all proving to be reliable pass catchers so far this year I don't think we really need someone like Avery. If we're going to sign anyone it should probably be some defensive guys (if the opportunity arises to get a playmaker) with the way we're losing players left and right to injury.

    • Dude you're all over the place. Bryce definitely played better than average down the stretch last year. That's what I said. I dont think it's controversial, and I think it's true based both on stats and by actually watching him play. He was the 6th rated passer by PFF during the last 8 weeks. In no world is that below average You trying to twist this into something else is a you thing.  Have a great night
    • Exactly He's played two seasons and started 28 games. He's well beyond the point of being able to point to 2 or 3 games and being able to say, "THAT is the QB he is and will be in the future" Of course he can get there, but anyone trying to use just those couple of games to rank his place amongst the games QB's today and their full career's worth of playing at that level, is just asinine. Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow, Hurts, Herbert, Daniels, Stafford, Goff, Geno, Purdy, Baker, Love, Dak, Tua, Kyler, Lawrence That's 17 QB's right there that have played better over their careers than Bryce has played at his best.  And I'm not saying they're all studs or guys I'd want to be our QB moving forward, Tua for example I wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole, but his body of work is a million times better than Bryce's has been. It's also not including any of the other QB's drafted in 2023/2024 other than Daniels. So again, say you believe in Bryce, say you think he's going to prove he can and should be our QB of the future, that's all fair and totally fine. But nobody can say he's been an above average QB in his career thus far, it's just an asinine notion.
